Kaylie's POV
"Keep it movin'." The guard tells me as I shuffle my shackled feet
"I'm movin' as fast as I can." I seethe
"What was that inmate?" The guard asks me
"Nothing, just-- just where the hell're you taking me?" I ask as the guard opens the door to one of the visitation rooms
"Long time, no see, Ed." I say as my eyes fall on my P.O. Ed Craig and the guard quickly undoes my shackles before he exits the room
"Have a seat." Ed says before we both sit down across from each other at the table
"How're you doing in here?" He asks me
"Peachy." I seethe
"This is your thirteenth time in juvie, Kaylie." Ed tells me
"Yeah. So what?" I mutter
"You were in last time for taking a bat to your foster brother's golf trophies." He tells me
"The foster brother that was raping me, you mean?" I ask as I cross my arms over my chest and raise an eyebrow at him
"Ah, yes." Ed says
"Kaylie, you were doing so well. You haven't been in trouble in almost four months. Your probation was almost finished, Kaylie. I don't understand. You were getting adopted." Ed says earning an exaggerated chuckle from me
"I was never gonna get adopted, Ed. I'm the system's trash." I tell him
"Kaylie, the Adams-Foster family love you--" Ed starts
"Besides, Ed, I'm sixteen. I don't need to be adopted." I say cutting him off
"Any idea what you do need?" He asks me
"Yeah...to be out of the system...on my own." I say
"Kaylie, you're still a kid. Like it or not, you need an adult to care for you. Whether it's in the system or back with your foster moms--" Ed starts
"No, I can't go back there. You can send me to a different foster home, or leave me here, I don't care. Just tell them..." I say trailing off as tears form in my eyes
"To give up on you?" Ed asks as I blink my tears away and I pick at the table
"Yeah." I say so soft it's barely audible
"It's easier this way, Ed." I say with a shrug
"This way...this way the system only fucks me." I say softly
"Let's talk about my charges." I say
"Well, they've dropped the involuntary manslaughter charge. However, they are charging you with possession simply because the school ID was yours and it did test positive for cocaine." Ed tells me
"I've spoken with your lawyer and they're not charging you as an adult." He adds
-Narrator's POV-
*Adams-Foster Residence*
"What's gonna happen to Kaylie?" Jude asks as everyone eats their breakfast
"Well, this afternoon, sweetheart, she gets to go before the judge and the judge will decide if she gets more probation or if she--" Stef starts
"Stays in juvie?" Brandon asks cutting her off
"She got beat up last time." Jesus says
"I know it's scary but we're gonna do whatever we can." Stef says
