The group consisting of Jack, Davey, and Bet had finally reached the Brooklyn Bridge. They still had a long walk to the harbor where Spot and his newsies were usually found. But that didn't stop them from being in a good mood.

Well...it didn't stop Bet from being in a good mood. The girl was skipping around and humming some songs to herself while keeping up with the guys. Jack kept shaking his head at how much energy she had so early in the morning. While Davey was genuinely impressed with how well she was coping.

Honestly, Davey was terrified. He had no idea what was waiting for him after they stepped off the bridge. From how everyone was reacting to the name Spot Conlon he could only imagine it was nothing good. That's why Bet's carefreeness was so confusing to him. Why would she be so happy if they were going to the guy that could kill them easily? At least that's how everyone described him as.

"You awfully quiet there Davey. Wanna tell us what you have in mind, maybe it'll get Bet here to shut up finally." Jack said, sending a playful glare to his sister who ignored him and proceeded to sing even louder.

Jack rolled his eyes, pushing the girl forward so he didn't have her singing right into his ear. Davey laughed at the antics of the two siblings, which weren't even blood-related. Yet they reminded him so much of him and Les. Jack gave that vibe that he would be able to give his life for his sister, the same way how Davey felt about his little brother.

"I've never been to Brooklyn, have you?" Davey asked awkwardly, trying to spark a conversation. Jack next to him shrugged.

"Been there a few times, not as much as Racer though." He answered sparkling Davey's attention.

"Then why didn't Race come?"

"He's scared!" Bet called from the front. Jack chuckled shaking his head.

"Racer's not scared. He and Spot had a run in a few weeks back. Got into an argument about somethin'. I feel it's safer not to let Race to Brooklyn for a few." The way Jack said it felt like he only wanted Davey to hear. He concluded that Bet had no idea about the incident with Race. He didn't know why, maybe it would disturb the girl or make her worry.

Davey didn't know what to think. The newsies all presented Bet as this strong individual that could soak either one of them if she wanted. They saw her as a strong, resourceful, and beautiful girl. But at the same time, they were very overprotective of her and would kill anyone who would as much as look at her in a wrong way. And they sheltered her from every hurtful thing that could be said.

How was it possible that one person had the same exact effect on a hoard of people? And how was it even possible that she was starting to have the same effect on Davey, even if he just knew her for three days altogether?

"So, is this Spot Conlon really dangerous?" Davey asked suddenly getting Jack to laugh.

"He's mostly just good at spookin' people. Unless he's angry he won't hurt ya." Jack assured him.

"But what if he's angry?" Davey asked.

"Then youse got a problem," Jack joked. He laughed when he saw Davey's face lose all color. "Nah, don't worry, we got Bet 'ere, he won't do a thing."  Davey looked at him confused.

"What can Bet do against Brooklyn?" Jack was just staring at his sister with a smile, watching her twirl and turn around without a care in the world.

"You'll see. C'mon now, keep up or we won't get there in time." He said, nudging Jack a little as the two started sprinting after Bet who was about to step down from the bridge. And officially step on the Brooklyn Newsies territory.
