Later that night, everyone was back from Hogsmeade. The Great Hall was buzzing with tales of their trip, students sharing stories and swapping sweets. Neville was now sitting with the Slytherins, showing off a new plant that Blaise got him at Dogweed and Deathcap.
Lilith smiles at him, "You continue to impress me with your Herbology knowledge, truly".
He laughs, "Thanks, Lilith. Your respect means a lot to me". He looks towards the Gryffindor table, "At least someone does".
Blaise smiles, "Don't worry. They won't be bothering you as long as we have something to say about it".
Neville blushes, "Um...thanks again for Dittany. You really didn't have to".
He smirks, "Consider it a...special gift".
After dinner, they all head back to the dungeons and to the Slytherin common room. Neville had broken off a few minutes earlier to head back to Gryffindor and Lilith was now conversing with the Prefects. The older Slytherins now considered her to be at the top with the Prefects and the Head Boy and Girl.
Walking up to the common room door, they notice the portrait of Salazar Slytherin looking weary.
Lilith asks, "Salazar, what's wrong?".
He turns to her, "Lilith, my dear. Thank Merlin you're here. We've all just received news that the Fat Lady's portrait got slashed during dinner".
The students gasp and she turns to the Prefects, "Get everyone inside, Micah".
The boy nods and starts ushering all the students inside the common room. The only ones remaining outside were Lilith, Draco, Blaise, Pansy, Daphne and Theo. As the last student enters, Micah gives Lilith a nod and goes inside, closing the entrance behind him.
Lilith turns back to Salazar, "Do you know who did it?".
He shakes his head, "Not at the moment, I'm afraid. Although...I have a theory".
Theo sighs, "Black".
He nods, "Let's pray to Merlin that that isn't the case. I would hate to see anything happen to my snakes with that mad man running around the place". He sighs, "Definitely says something about the security".
Draco nods, "Please keep us updated, Salazar".
"Of course, my boy. Keep yourselves safe".
They all nod and the entrance opens, letting them all inside. Walking into the common room, they saw most of the students were waiting for them. Some of the older Slytherins were taking care of the younger ones who were starting to really worry.
Micah walks up to them, "What did you find out?".
Lilith shakes her head, "Nothing at the moment. Salazar will update us if he hears anything else". She sighs, "He does have a theory that Black had something to do with this".
"It honestly wouldn't surprise me. Having said that...". He looks back at the younger students, "...I fear your baby snakes have also reached that hypothesis".
She nods, "All we can do is keep everyone calm and not jump to conclusions. I'll talk to Neville in the morning to see what he-".
She gets interrupted by the voice of Salazar, "Lilith. There is a Gryffindor boy here to see you. He says it's urgent".
She turns to Draco in confusion and responds, "Let him in".
The entrance opens and Neville runs in. He looks around frantically and out of breath.
He spots Lilith and immediately runs over, "Lil. It was Black. He's in the castle".
