After speaking a little more with Draco, Severus let them sleep in the common room, not wanting to disturb Lilith's sleep. He left to his own quarters, trusting Salazar to keep a close eye on them during the night.
The next morning, Lilith, Draco, Crabbe and Goyle were sitting in Defence Against the Dark Arts for their lesson. Neville was sitting on the other side with the Gryffindors, that being the only space available for him.
He turns to Lilith, "You feeling a little better, Lil?".
She nods, "Yeah, thanks, Neville. How about you? Sleep well?".
He blushes and nods, "Yeah".
Lilith smiles as the door slams open. Everyone jumps in their seats as they turn to see Severus strutting into the classroom. As he walks towards the front, he raises his wand and closes all the blinds. As he gets to the front, he pulls down a screen over the blackboard.
He turns abruptly to the students, "Turn to page 394".
The students look around in confusion. Lilith and Draco smirk as they realise what's going on.
Harry asks, "Excuse me, sir, but...where's Professor Lupin?".
Severus responds, "That's not really your concern, is it, Potter? Suffice it to say, your Professor finds himself incapable of teaching at the present time. Page 394".
He waves his hand and an image appears projected on the screen as the students open their textbooks. An ancient woodcut of a horrific beast flickers at the front of the room.
Ron frowns, "Werewolves?".
Hermione scoffs, "But, sir, we've only just begun learning about Red Caps and Hinkypunks. We're not meant to start nocturnal beasts for weeks-".
Severus interrupts her, "Quiet!".
Lilith hears Crabbe ask, "Where the bloody hell did she come from?".
Severus continues, "Now. Which of you can tell me the difference between an Animagus and a werewolf?".
Hermione automatically raises her hand in the air. Lilith rolls her eyes and Severus, as usual, decides to ignore her.
He scans the room, "No one? How...disappointing".
Hermione stands, "An Animagus is a wizard who elects to turn into an animal. A werewolf has no choice in the matter. Furthermore, the werewolf actively hunts humans and only responds to the call of its own kind-".
Draco lets out a howl, "Awoo!".
The students laugh as Severus shakes his head, holding back a smile, "That's enough, Draco. That is the second time you have spoken out of turn, Miss Granger. Tell me. Are you incapable of restraining yourself? Or do you take pride in being an insufferable know-it-all?".
The Slytherins laugh as she sits back down in embarrassment. Lilith smirks as she high fives Draco.
Severus calls out, "Five points from Gryffindor!". He continues the lesson, "As an antidote to your ignorance, I prescribe two rolls of parchment on the werewolf by Monday morning, with particular emphasis placed on recognising it. You are all dismissed".
Hermione asks, "But sir, it's not-".
"You...are all...dismissed".
Lilith raises her hand, "Can I ask just one question, Professor?".
He smiles and nods, "Of course, Miss Snape".
She smiles, "Do you feel Hogwarts is safe?".
Hermione answers first, "Of course it is, where else would-".
Lilith glares, "I didn't ask you, Granger".
Severus smirks, "Strike three, Miss Granger. To answer your question, sweetheart, no...I don't".
