"I came out of hyperspace a few minutes later. I was in the middle of nowhere, far from any planet or space station. It was the perfect place to rest after so many emotions. When reviewing the route, I realized that I had jumped to the outer edge, so there wasn't much chance someone would find me.
I sat in a corner of the ship to think about what I was doing. I kept questioning the fact of having deserted. I even thought about going back and giving a possible justification, but I took the lightsaber in my hands and understood that that wasn't an option. Since then, I was on my own.
The peace of the space was comforting. I shut down the ship and only left life support on to avoid being detected by someone, but after a few minutes I heard a noise coming from the back of the ship. I took the lightsaber and cautiously approached the cabin door, wondering what that noise could have been.
I opened the door to find a startled RA-7 protocol droid that seemed to have activated automatically when the ship's systems were shut down. A security system, perhaps. The droid backed away slowly as he focused on the lightsaber.
Rage: - Calm down, my friend. What are you doing here? -
RA-7: - My designation is KLO-RA-7. I'm the ship's emergency pilot. -
Rage: - As you can see. Your functions are not required at this time. -
RA-7: - Understood. -
The droid sat quietly while I still thought about what to do. But I guess with these protocol droids it's impossible to have a minute of peace.
RA-7: - Are you a Jedi? -
Rage: - No. Well... yes. Rather... I don't know. -
RA-7: - You're wearing Republic clone armor. What are you exactly? -
I remember asking myself the same question. So I took off my helmet and saw it in detail. Thinking about what it meant to wear this armor.
RA-7: - You are a clone. This is... unprocessable. -
Rage: - What do you mean? -
RA-7: - I have no record in my database of any similar event in the past. This is interesting. A clone trooper, and a Jedi, at the same time. -
Rage: - I'm not a soldier. No more. - RA-7 computed for a few seconds and understood the situation.
RA-7: - And what will you do now? -
Rage: - That's what I'm trying to think. But there is someone who does not stop chattering. - RA-7 looked at me somewhat confused.
RA-7: - Someone who? - I remember that I only looked at him out of the corner of my eye while he was still confused. - Oh. You are talking about me. It's strange. Thank you. -
Rage: - Thank you? Why? -
RA-7: - It is the first time that someone say to me "someone" and not "something." It feels strange. -
I considered him incorrigible. I never thought a droid would be so touchy. But for Kilo it seems that it meant a lot. Yeah. I decided to call it Kilo after a while, because of its nomenclature, since RA-7 was a bit cumbersome. I remember that I kept thinking in silence for a while, until he interrupted again.
Kilo: - I guess you want to "disappear" from the system. -
Rage: - It can be said . But I don't think it's that easy. -
Kilo: - My database has records of planets with that possibility. But you will need credits to do it. Which you seem not to have. I recommend: bounty hunting work. -
Rage: - Is it a joke? I am a clone. The bounty hunters will greet me with a blaster to the head. -
Kilo: - That's wrong. Not if they don't find out who you are. -
I was surprised by what Kilo said. Who would have imagined that a droid could compute such an idea? The proposition was quite risky, but it was possibly my only solution if I wanted to get out of the system. The idea of working with bounty hunters didn't appeal to me, nor did I have any reason to trust Kilo at the moment. But the truth was, I had no choice.
Anger: - Well. What destination do you recommend? -
Kilo: - Given the situation we are in. Tatooine is the most logical place to start. -
Rage: - Tatooine? It's a joke? That planet is probably the worst place to start. -
Kilo: - Most likely. But this is a separatist transport. The Tatooine authorities will treat us differently than if we were a Republics ship. -
Once again I was amazed at the droid's ability to solve these types of problems. Were they always like this? I remember that in the military we always ignored droids, especially protocol ones. If this is the case, perhaps we should have listened to them more often.
Well. That is how my journey began. On a Separatist transport, with a droid whose intentions I didn't know, to a famously hostile planet, and as a fugitive clone trooper. What could go wrong?"
