BEAU LANGLEY'S POV
Two days later, I am in my sister's car on my way to the address Lanet sent to me.
Am I a fool for driving 2 hours just to go see a man I just met? I'm only about 30 minutes away now and I haven't stopped wondering if what I'm doing isn't too extreme. I just met the man.
It's not long before I enter the most upscale neighbourhood I've ever been to. The area looks like something between a hamlet and a village. I drive past several big rustic mansions.
Neatly trimmed grass is contoured by flower bushes on each side of the road, and at the upcoming roundabout, there's a great fountain in the centre, attracting the attention of its visitors. "This place is a beauty."
A few minutes later I arrive at a big gate where a guard opens the gate and waves me in without asking questions.
"Thank you." I smile. Good thing I'm not here to steal then coz that would've been an easy entry.
I go through the huge gates and a beautiful old-fashioned mansion comes into view.
Once I park my car, I approach the huge door and stand there for a while not knowing what to do.
"I thought he said there would be a butler waiting for me."
I'm about to ring the doorbell when the door creaks open.
"Sorry to keep you waiting sir, please come on in." an old man with a serious look on his face gestures for me to come in.
I follow him into the mansion which looks very clean and crisp. The rustic elements give it an intimate and warm feeling.
Wow. This man has taste.
"Shall I get you anything, Mr Langley?" the butler asks and I can't help but wonder why he has such a severe face, is he like this or is he wearing the expression just for me?
I cock my head to the side curiously. "Lanet told me he'd arrive around lunchtime. Can I rest somewhere while I wait?"
A woman approaches, gives me a small smile, and then hands the butler a fruit platter.
"Of course, if you will please follow me."
I feel like some important rich person as I follow behind him and into a nice living area that's a blend of natural and more sophisticated architecture.
"Do feel free to move around if you want to explore and here are some snacks. I'm just a button away if you need me." He places the fruit platter on the table and hands me a device that looks like a pager.
"Thank you, sir." I smile and his serious expression falters for a second, turning into a momentary shock. Then he turns away and leaves.
I lay with my feet on the couch as I nib on a thin slice of apple.
I don't know when or how I fell asleep, but some time later I'm startled awake by someone lifting my feet from the couch
"Gosh Lanet, don't scare me like that."
Lanet sits on the couch next to me and places my feet on his lap. "I'm sorry, I meant no harm. Didn't think you'd be asleep with an apple in your hand."
"Oh." My eyes go to the apple in my hand which has begun to brown and I put it back on the plate.
There's a moment of silence before Lanet speaks again. "I am happy that you're here Beau. I never thought you'd come."
I look at Lanet and can see the bags below his eyes, his eyes shut close and then open again in an effort to stay awake.
"You look tired, are you sure it was okay for me to come here, I could've let you rest or something."
