"Tiggy, watch out you might break your neck on those things." Her mother shouted to her on the road as she rushed with her slide knowing that she was already late for school.
It was common to hear the shout and to see her smile as she waved to her mother while she rushed, especially whenever he slept at her dads. Tiggy laughed since no matter how sweet her step mother tried to be, she was never a morning person and her cooking was awful so she would run to eat her mother's all the time.
"Morning to you too mother. I have stolen your breakfast and you always worry; I think am strong to handle any potential fall. I will be careful, promise." She said as she rushed away.
It was true she had entered through the back door and stolen her mother's yummy breakfast from the kitchen table, getting herself twice the portion as her share was already there too. It was the usual routine anyway and even though her step mother got angry once in a while, she could never stop going to her mother's place for breakfast. After all it was her mother's cooking, no one else's cooking could match it.
As she tried to rush, Tiggy felt that there was something different in the air today, a feeling that was more persistent that the others time she had felt before. This time it felt heavy and had a scent that sent chills down her spine attached to it. She could not tell what it was but it was very familiar, like something that had been hidden in her conscience and trying to bring it up only confused her more. She tried to shake it off but the familiarity bothered her that she lost focus and she skated to school.
"Tigrerra, well for once I think you have come to school on time." The prefect on duty said as she entered the school doors.
She was not early, she knew that, but at least she was fifteen minutes earlier than the time she usually arrived. This time she didn't have to climb through the fence and could actually claim she really tried, everyone was already sued to her coming in after the first class had ended and it was a miracle that she still passed. The school board was tired of penalizing her for it, they could not really send her away due to her athletic talents and her father was tired of even asking how much they wanted this time, so eventually they left her alone. This could only work because there was really no other school in the area that could really afford to anger her grandmother and also, the school could use the money that her family donated to cover up her "inadequacies" as her mother called them.
"Thank you Aldera, I really was hoping to make a statement today but seeing your face.... well, I can't get want I want always." She smirked as she commented leaving the self-conscious girl looking out for her pocket mirror.
She and Aldera had never gotten along well. While Tiggy wanted to shy away from attention, Aldera wanted all the attention on her and the fact that as always, attention found Tiggy, Aldera refused to accept that no one was like her, so the hate begun from there. Everyone liked Tiggy, so much so because of her ignorance of the attention she commanded so in comparison everyone thought Aldera was too superficial and vain, an unfortunate reality. As Tiggy walked away, she was attacked by a group coming to greet her as usual, her rowdy friends. She was lifted off to her classroom and Mrs. Luke could be heard shouting at them, just like she always did every morning. There was nothing different about the routine but somewhere in her heart, she felt there were changes, and the way it made her heart pound scared her. It was not unusual for her to instinctively feel things coming her way but this was the first time it scared her because of the inkling of uncertainty that it promised. She had been scared when she knew that her parents would eventually divorce, but it had not weighed as heavy in her heart as her immediate feeling.
