A while later, Letty was with Dom on the couch, still kissing, but Letty heard a little giggling and pulled away.
"What's wrong?" Dom calmly asked, and Letty tapped on her ear. Dom listened closely and now heard it too — that little soft giggle that could only come from his daughter. Letty got up from Dom's lap and pulled Dom with her to the other side of the garage. There she was with Leon, who was explaining some things about the car. The little girl was listening closely; you could see it in her eyes. That little shine in her eyes when you talk about cars in front of her — you could see she was just like her parents. Letty stood in front of Dom as he pulled her into a hug from behind while watching their daughter.
"Alright, can you grab that wrench there?" Leon said, grinning at Elli as she pivked it up. "Okay, place it there… now pull it torwards you. Nice and strong . You got this?"
"I don't know," she mumbled while grabbing the wrench with both hands and giving it a try.
"Yeah, just like that" Leon said while helping the girl a bit. "Only a bit more… Perfect. Good job. High five." He lifted his hand as the little girl high-fived him.
"Did it," she smiled proudly.
"Good job, little one," Dom said from behind. Leon and Elli turned their heads to look at them.
"Oh, you’re done making out?" Leon asked, amused.
"Disgusting," Elli muttered to Leon.
Letty heard her mutter and held back a smile. "So, you wanna go home or stay here the rest of the day and sleep here?" she asked the girl.
"Uhm… when I think about it, I'd rather go home than sleep here."
"That's what I thought. Come on," Letty held out her hand for Elli to take it.
"Ok," the girl turned to Leon for a second and muttered, "The next time I see you, I want my money, or I’m gonna tell the woman you bring with you next time that you kidnapped me." Now she ran forward to her mother and grabbed her hand. "Bye, Uncle Leon, see ya," she waved back.
They said goodbye to Jesse, Mia, and Vince, who was not that pissed anymore. Ella jumped in the child seat at the back of the car, and as soon as she sat, tiredness came over her, and she fell asleep. It was not that late, so when Letty and Dom came home, they took her to her bed and sat themselves down in the kitchen to eat a bit.
The day went by, and soon it was the middle of the night. Elli was now wide awake again as she sat in the car.
The five-year-old's feet swung back and forth, excited to go to the race. Letty and Dom hated the thought of taking her with them, but as Layla was gone, they now had no other choice. The last time Ella was at a race had been a while back, so she was pretty excited. The stories her parents always told about driving made her even more excited. The feeling of the wind in the face, seeing everything pass by, and forgetting every worry — she wanted to have that feeling too, but Dom said not until she was 10 or 12 or 13 or 14, or better yet, 18. But he also knew he couldn’t keep her away that long.
Ella sat in the car with Letty. As the car finally stopped moving, the lights shone through the window. Ella rapidly tried to open the door, but the seat belt held her back. Letty then opened her seatbelt before opening her own door. Elli finally managed to open the door and rushed to her father.
Around him stood two women — two blond girls trying to get Dom's attention.
"Daddy," Ella said, looking at her father and then the women. The two blonds smelled like alcohol — a smell that Ella didn’t know but also didn’t like. The child put her hands up to her father, trying to get picked up. Slowly, Dom lifted his daughter into his arms.
"Oh, what a cutie you are," one of them smiled and tried to touch her cheek, but the kid quickly pushed the hand away.
"Wow, you also speak like a skank," Ella repeated the words her mother always said.
"What did you say?" the other one asked.
"I only said that you really are skanks," Ella said again.
"Oh, you are a little skank, go away, bitch," one said.
"Hey, don't talk to my daughter that way," Dom interrupted the woman.
"That's enough, you should go," he stopped the conversation and pushed the woman away with an annoyed face. His gaze went to his daughter, and he saw that devilish grin on her face. "You are just like your mother," he smirked before gazing over to Letty. She watched proudly with a big smile and walked over to her family. "You really are one team," Dom muttered with a smile as he gave Elli a kiss on the head."Ok, Hector," Dom now shook Hector's hand before giving Ella to Letty, who proudly gave her mother a high five.
"Yo, what's up, man," Hector greeted the bold man.
"Yo, what's up," another man came up to Dom and shook his hand.
"Edward," Dom acknowledged the dark-skinned man.
"How we doing today?" Edward questioned.
"One race, two GBA. Winner takes all. Hector, you gonna hold the cash," Dom stated.
"'Cause he's too slow, make a way with the money, man," Edward joked, while the crowd started to shout, "Owww!"
Elli giggled before looking up at her mom. "He's probably even slower than me," she smiled.
"Probably," Letty smiled back down at Elli.
"Ok, good luck, guys," Dom wished the men around him.
Meanwhile, Ella stood at the side, holding Letty's hand and watching her father with a smile.
"Hey wait, hold up," a familiar voice called out. It was Brian. Ella waved at him, and he gave a small wave back before turning back to the group of racers. "I don't have any cash," he paused for a second, "but I do have the pink slip in my car." Brian held in his hand the papers to his car.
"You can't just climb in the ring with all the racers. You think you can box?" Jesse now interjected.
Brian pointed to Vince. "He knows I can box. So check it out, it's like this…" Mia looked at Brian, surprised, and everyone knew he wouldn't win against Dom. "I lose, the winner takes my car, clean and clear. But if I win, I take the cash and the respect."
"Respect?" Dom and the crowd laughed.
"To some people, that's more important," Brian told him and looked into Dom's eyes.
"Is that your car?" Dom pointed to a green Mitsubishi after a few seconds of thinking.
Jesse opened the hood. "I see a cooler intake, it got a nice fogger system, the T4 turbo, Dominic. I see AIC controller. It has direct fork nitrous injection."
"Yeah, and a stand-alone fuel management system… not a bad way to spend ten thousand dollars," Dom interrupted Jesse.
"Oh shit!" the crowd shouted.
"Is that a lot, Mommy?" Ella asked and turned to her mother.
"Yeah, that's a lot," Letty responded.
"See that shit?" Edward came from behind, pointing to the car. "He got enough nitrous to blow himself up."
"So what do you say, am I worthy?" Brian asked.
"We don't know yet," Dom said, "but you're in," he smiled and got to his car.
