"Do you need company?" NiKi asked Sunoo as he stood up to leave.

Sunoo looked at him in surprise. He wondered if the detective had heard his thoughts.

Sunoo and NiKi had spent the afternoon wandering around the streets of Seoul before they finally settled on a cute bar with a patio. They had taken a seat outside and talked about everything. Sunoo couldn't believe how easy it was to talk to NiKi.

All of that worrying for nothing.

But Sunoo was not really a drinker and he didn't realize how much he had in all of that time they sat there chatting.  Sunoo could feel himself saying things sober Sunoo would never say.

Things like "Wow, NiKi, you're just so handsome!" completely at random when the conversation hit a lull.

Honestly, it was cringe.  Sunoo was getting on his own nerves as he watched himself with the acute awareness of a man who knows he'll regret the things he said when he sobers up and recalls them.

But Sunoo DID need company. As they got up to leave, Sunoo realized this was not a part of the city where he regularly spent time, and he wasn't sure he would be able to navigate his way home very well.

"This sounds SO cheesy and planned, NiKi, so just be aware that I know that before I say it: I really could use a ride home. Or, at minimum, a point in the general direction of home".

NiKi chuckled and ruffled his hair.

"Of course, Mr. Kim. I'd be happy to escort you home. It's not a far walk."

Sunoo smiled at Niki.  "Thank you!  To be clear, I just need you to walk me home. I'm not, like, suggesting..."

NiKi laughed and Sunoo felt the heat flash into his face.

"Mr. Kim, this is our first date. I wouldn't dream of it."

It did not escape Sunoo - regardless of his level of intoxication - that NiKi had just called this a date.

Once again reading his mind, Sunoo felt NiKi confirm his statement by holding his arm out and reaching for Sunoo's hand.

Sunoo took the warm hand in his own and felt NiKi link his fingers with his.  He swung their arms back and forth as they walked in silence, both men looking like embarrassed teenagers.

Earlier, Sunoo had texted Jungwon where he was so that he wouldn't worry.  Jungwon was practically screaming with excitement through the text message. Sunoo had already been excited to share with him, but this latest development just took it to another level.

Sunoo didn't realize he was smiling to himself.

"What?" NiKi asked.

He'd been caught.

"Nothing, just..." Sunoo giggled, "nothing."

"Come on," NiKi laughed, pulling on Sunoo's hand, "just tell me."

Sunoo let out a sigh, knowing that it was easier to just say it, and he was drunk enough that he could plea innocence later.

"It's just...you said 'date', and...I don't know..."

NiKi stopped dead in his tracks, stopping Sunoo who looked up and saw concern on NiKi's face.

"Oh!  I'm sorry!  That actually was really presumptuous of me, huh? I just kind of thought it was since, well, I did technically ask you out, and you did technically say yes, and I definitely am into you, so..."

Sunoo's eyes widened and his mind raced as he tried to think of something - anything - NOT awkward to say.

"No, it's just that I was smiling because I was happy. I was happy that you thought it was a date. I didn't know it was a date.  But if I had, I would have said yes."
