"You know, it's okay to be late SOMETIMES," Jungwon whined as he reached from behind his head to grab his pillow, smashing it onto his face to block out the light.

Sunoo giggled and continued to raise the blinds in his bedroom.

"Wake up, Jungwonnie! It's a beautiful day!  The sun is shining, the birds are singing- "

"-the Jungwon is cursing," he groaned "for fuck's sake, Sunoo, why the blinds? Huh? WHY THE BLINDS?!? Not to mention how are you so chipper given the amount of alcohol consumed last night??"

Sunoo flopped onto his bed, the weight shifting an irritable Jungwon as the former reached down to put on his shoes.

"This is how I wake up every day. I have to let the daylight in," Sunoo answered, then leaning in with a grin he whispered, "my house, my rules...and I didn't drink that much."

Jungwon had moved in with Sunoo two months ago, just until he got back on his feet. He had recently lost a job at an online magazine. They wanted a puff piece about a new dog park.  Jungwon wanted to be an investigative reporter and instead write about the goings on at the "charity" behind the development of said dog park.

'Creative differences' is the phrase Jungwon had used on the phone that night, but it was clear the differences were more than creative when two months later he had interviewed with nearly every news outlet in Seoul to no avail.

But Sunoo didn't mind. He loved having his best friend there, and it was just like college...only they didn't have to share a bed in college.

Sunoo was happy to share his space, but the problem was that the space was a tiny one bedroom apartment.

"You know, you can put the blinds back down when I leave," Sunoo laughed.

"Hell, no, I can't!" Jungwon complained, "because then I'll be standing up so then my body will think I'm up and then I'll have to pee and after that my eyes will adjust to the light and I'll just be awake. Leave me here with my pillow in peace! You keep talking and making it worse!"

Sunoo raised his hands in defeat - not that Jungwon could see it. He still had the pillow over his eyes to hide as much light as possible.

Jungwon was correct, Sunoo was always early - or at the very least EXACTLY on time.  But this week was an exceptionally important week, and he had to make sure that everything was as it should be.

On this Wednesday morning, Sunoo and his business partner, Sunghoon, where making final menu preparations for the charity event that they were catering on Saturday night.  The event, hosted by CEO's-son-turned-philanthropist, Jay, was one of the most important events that Sunoo had ever catered.

The event was to benefit TeenHeal, a local clubhouse/teen center where Sunoo volunteered.  The clubhouse was very important to Sunoo as it was a safe space for LGBTQ+ teens to hang out and spend time after school - a reprieve from the sometimes-oppressive parents or bullying classmates.  There were even therapists there that volunteered their time and services at no cost.

Sunoo went to TeenHeal every Thursday and taught a baking class.  He spent time with some of the kids and shared how he had been fortunate in that he had always been able to be open about his sexuality with his family, but it had been difficult at school. He would have loved a place like this where he could be with others who understood him.

He had gotten close with a number of the other volunteers, and had a great relationship with the founder, so when Jay asked Sunoo about catering this fundraising event, he jumped at the chance.
