The man stared at the newspaper headline.

Local Detective Leads Search for Lost Love

So... Sunoo has a boyfriend?

He chuckled to himself and then sighed in resignation.  This was...news...

What a waste of time.

The man looked at the pleading detective's face just below the headline.  His eyes filled with tears.

How was someone even able to take such a clear picture? the man wondered.

He heard his name called, pulling him out of his thoughts.  He looked up to see the old man holding up his coffee order, smiling kindly.

The man nodded and stood up, leaving the paper on the table. He walked to the counter and took the cup from the man, turning to go out the door.

"Wait!  You left your newspaper on the table," the man called, pointing at the table the man had just left.

"It's okay, Mr. Jung. Just leave it for the next guy to read."

The man walked out of the coffee shop and headed back to see Sunoo.

Because this newspaper didn't make any sense.

He had told himself over and over again that it was stupid to be excited to be going back today.  He wasn't meant to feel like this.

Seriously. Why even try at this point? It's over.

Walking into the control room, he saw Sunoo happily eating his dinner while reading a book.

The man wished he had brought the newspaper after all. He could confront him and ask him about the boyfriend thing. Eventually they would have to see one another.

He didn't know why he put on the costume. He had all the reason in the world to give up on all of this and walk away.  But he got dressed all the same and headed into the room where Sunoo looked up expectantly at the door, a giant smile on his face.

****

Sunoo heard the beeping from the door and straightened himself up to smile brightly.

"You're here!" Sunoo smiled.

"I am." the man said, "but you actually sound happy about that. Why?  After the last time..."

"I don't know," Sunoo answered.  "I've just been thinking.  I mean, so much effort has been put into this space. You really do know me. It's clear you care about me. I would really like for you to let me know you. Otherwise, why am I even here?"

The man laughed, but it sounded flat. A defeated sigh followed as he sat down at the table across from Sunoo's bed.

"Is something...wrong?" Sunoo asked.

"No..." the man said, "nothing wrong.  I just didn't realize you had a boyfriend."

Sunoo looked at the man confused, his head tilting to one side. The man couldn't help but smile at the cuteness. He was glad Sunoo couldn't see it.

"You look confused."

"Because I AM confused," Sunoo said.

"Why are you confused?  It was the headline in all of the newspapers today. Your boyfriend is even a detective. The LEAD Detective on your "case"," the man told him, making air quotes with his fingers.

"NiKi??" Sunoo felt overwhelmed and was disarmed. He had a plan for when the man came in, but this wasn't it. Why do the newspapers say that NiKi is my boyfriend? There's a case about me?
