Who Is the Dajjal?

●Emergence of Dajjaal is one
of the biggest signs that will
appear near the Day of Judgement.

Al-Masih Ad-Dajjal, also known as the false messiah and referred to simply as Dajjal, will first present himself as a believer but later on, he will claim to be a prophet and finally to be god. The enormity and severity of his mischief can be realized by the fact that every Prophet (A.S.) warned his followers about it.

1- His Appearance

Many Ahadith describe the attributes of Dajjal. He will be a young man with a ruddy complexion, with thick curly hair, blind or defective in the right eye, his left eye will be covered with a thick piece of flesh growing at the edge of his eye. Separate Arabic letters “Kaf, Fa, Ra” (‘Kafir’ when letters are joined) will be written between his eyes and every believer will be able to read it.

Another of his characteristics will be that he will be sterile, with no children born to him.

2- His Emergence

Dajjal will emerge from the East, from Khurasan and he will be followed by 70,000 Jews of Isfahan, wearing Persian shawls.

3- Where He Will Visit

After his emergence, he will then travel all over the world and will never leave a city without entering it, except Makkah and Medina.

4- His Stay on Earth

According to a Hadith, Dajjal will stay in the world for 40 but it is unclear whether it would be 40 days or 40 months or 40 years.

5- Places Where He Will Not Be Able to Enter

According to the Hadiths mentioned below, Dajjal will visit and enter every city, every town, and every place on earth except Makkah and Madinah (Masjid Al-Haram and Masjid Al-Nabawi). It is forbidden for the Dajjal to enter these two places. Dajjal will not spare any town where he would not stay for 40 nights except Makkah and Madinah (which are forbidden for him to enter).

6- Tricks of Dajjal

Dajjaal will try to destroy the faith of people through his different tricks. One of his tricks mentioned in Hadith is that he will kill a man and then will bring him back to life. People will be so amazed by his tricks that they will become confused and will start following him. This is the reason that our Prophet (S.A.W.) advised Muslims to go far away from him when they heard about Dajjal’s emergence.

“Let him who hears of the Dajjal (Antichrist) go far from him for I swear by Allah that a man will come to him thinking he is a believer and follow him because of confused ideas roused in him by him.” 

(Abu Dawud: 4319)

7- Who Will Kill Dajjal?

During Dajjal’s stay on earth, all people, other than his followers, will be in extreme trouble. Then Allah will send the Son of Maryam, Isa (A.S.), who will chase Dajjal. Isa (A.S.) will catch up with him at the gate of Ludd (Lod), a place in Palestine near Bayt al-Maqdis where He (A.S.) will kill Dajjal.

8- Protection against The Fitnah of Dajjal

Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) has set out some guidelines for Muslims which can be followed to get protection against the mighty fitnah of Dajjal.

“Whoever hears news of the False Messiah, let him flee from him. By Allah, a man will go to him considering himself a believer, but will instead follow him because of doubts he will present.”

Abu al Darda, Allah be pleased with him, related that the Prophet of Allah, Allah bless him and give him peace) said,

“Whoever commits ten verses from the beginning Sura al Kahf will be protected from the Dajjal.”
(Muslim, Abu Dawud 4321)

Dua for protecting against Dajjal :

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَذَابِ جَهَنَّمَ وَمِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ وَمِنْ فِتْنَةِ الْمَحْيَا وَالْمَمَاتِ وَمِنْ شَرِّ فِتْنَةِ الْمَسِيحِ الدَّجَّالِ

“O Allah! I seek refuge with Thee from the torment of the Hell, from the torment of the grave, from the trial of life and death and from the evil of the trial of Masih al-Dajjal"
