I am just gonna say here that this is placed before Stickman vs Queen Bee, basically before Jack met Mermutany, Navashark and Meena. Anyways, enjoy!
It was his favourite place to go at night, and the stars were spectacular up there. It did take quite a lot of energy to walk up it but it was so worth it when he reached the top. He just had to keep reminding himself that as he kept staggering up. He'd tried going up it shark-mode, but unsurprisingly it would take much longer and was overall much more tiring. He brought a telescope, and snacks, because he would almost always end up hungry after such an exhausting climb. He thought he'd be alone, as he always was (not that he minded) but today just wasn't the case, he said to himself, as he saw a silhouette sitting alone on the cliff.
It was difficult to see who it was, he doubted it was some NPC as he didn't think any would bother to climb up here, a fair distance away from everything. As he came closer he realised they looked a bit like a dryad, with her long, green hair, but not exactly. He was just about to say something when she called, "I know you're there, y'know."
He was taken by surprise. She certainly didn't sound like any dryad's he'd heard, but just to make sure he asked. "Hey, uhm, sorry if this might sound rude? In a way, but are you a dryad?"
She turned around to face him and realised she was definitely not a dryad. One of her eyes were covered by some sort of metal eye piece with three bright blue lights. There was another robotic piece on her left shoulder with a radiation symbol on it. Her eye color was blood red. He reasoned with himself this was another Terraria player.
Strange. He didn't think he saw the message saying she joined his world.
"Do I really look like one?" she said, unamused, still staring at him.
"I- uh- no, I mean, your hair kinda looks like it and the, uhm, it's dark and all so it's kind of hard to see from a distance." her dominant gaze was making him stutter.
She sighed and turned away, looking back at the seemingly endless array of wildlife that scattered the ground. Her feet were dangling dangerously off the edge, but she didn't show a slight trace of fear in her face.
"So..." Navashark said, attempting to make small talk while setting up the telescope. "Why are you here all alone at night?"
"Why are you here all alone at night?" she said, clearly not willing to answer.
"Oh... I come here to watch the stars."
No response.
"I'm assuming you are here for the same reason?"
"Guess so."
"You don't talk much do you?"
No response.
Giving up, Navashark continued setting the telescope up. He set his basket of snacks down next to it and positioned the telescope a few feet away from her, for space or whatever, he didn't really know. He stuck his eye in it and adjusted the telescope to better see. Then he heard something that made him instantly stop what he was doing.
A sob.
A small, barely heard, but still clearly a sob, coming from the person a few feet away from him.
He looked at her, a bit stunned. She had pulled her knees to her chest and buried her face in her knees, her arms wrapped around them.
Another sob.
He didn't want to just leave her crying, so he took a chocolate bar from his basket and walked up to her.
"Do you want this?"
She shuddered, and looked up at him, eyes clearly puffy.
"I have a lot in my basket that I brought and I... just thought you wanted it."
He tried smiling, arm still outstretched.
She looked at him, then at the chocolate bar. She asked, "Really?"
He nodded and she eventually took it, slowly unwrapping it with a small smile on her face.
That made him smile too.
"I'm Navashark." He held out his hand again.
"Mermutany." She shook it.
He sat next to her. "Sorry for accidentally calling you a dryad and stuff, I didn't really expect someone else to be here."
She laughed, wiping a tear away. "No it's fine, I get that a lot. I should probably change my hairstyle."
He also laughed, before looking back at his abandoned telescope.
"Hey, Mermutany, do you want to stargaze with me? It'll be nice to actually have some company for once, I've been doing this alone for who knows how long."
She looked at him, "That would be nice. Great, even."
"That's great!" He suddenly jumped up in excitement. "Y'think that we can be friends then? You seem lonely, and I'm lonely too, not that it's bad to be lonely or anything, but it might be fun to spend time together!"
She stood up also, dusting herself off. "I'm okay with that."
He walked towards the telescope, "Do you know how to use one of these?"
She shook her head. "They aren't in Terraria, I think. How did you even get this?"
"Oh it's a hella long story, y'think it would be easy to get one of these, basically..."
And they spent the rest of the night on that cliff.
Author's note: I literally was halfway through this story before I realised that telescopes don't exist in Terraria, but I was too lazy to change the story so the least I could do is acknowledge it at the end, apologies if it seems like a last minute insert, because it was.
And don't ask about how he got it, there is a reason why I didn't explain it in the story, it's up to interpretation or something
