AMELIA CLAXTON
SEPTEMBER 13TH, 2021

"Welcome everyone! My name is Amelia Claxton and I'm your instructor of Macroeconomics this semester. No need to call me Miss Claxton or anything like that, feel free to address me as Amelia and I'll do the same for you. While I teach the course and grade most of your work, all course content and tests are created by Dr. Wynn. If you have any questions or concerns about me and my teaching, not the course content, you can reach out to Dr. Wynn. For this course, we will be meeting once a week. Yet, you can meet with me during office hours on Wednesday afternoon's or reach out to me by email anytime."

I pause in my introduction and take a look around my classroom. Majority of the students looking at me are wearing bright, excited smiles. Yet, there are definitely a few who have dreary, tired eyes. Understandably as the semester started last week but this was the first day of our course. Plus, it is a Monday after all.

"This semester is gonna be a good one. First and foremost, I am here to teach you but I also want you to leave this class with a better understanding of economics in our society. My ultimate goal is for everyone to have that better understanding and the only way you can fail this class is if you don't make the effort. My promise to you is to help you in anyway I can but I need each of you to give your best effort. I can't promise it'll be easy, but I can promise I'll make it easy for you in the end!"

Even the tired, dreary faces turn into smiling ones. A few of the students nod their heads at my statement and I give them a thumbs up.

"What do y'all think about a short class today?" I say and everyone's eyes start shining. Wide smiles on nearly everyone's face. I chuckle, "Alright, let's get into this syllabus."

"On the class web page, the first extra credit assignment is posted. It's a syllabus quiz, so I know you'll all have your first 100 in this class. Quiz is due five minutes before midnight on Wednesday, I'll see you all next week!" I flash a smile at the students exiting my classroom and take a seat at the desk to clean up my stuff. I feel a presence stand in front of me and I look up to see Graham, the kid I had tutored all summer.

"Oh, hi, Graham!" I smile.

"Amelia, hey. I just wanted to say hello and how excited I am to have you as the instructor for this class!"

"Aww, thanks! It's going to be a good semester, I hope," I reply.

He nods his head and says, "Having you teaching us, this semester will be a breeze."

Graham waves as he exits the classroom, bidding his goodbyes to me. I finish cleaning up the desk so the next instructor has a clean workspace for their class. I pack up my tote bag, log off from the desktop computer and shut it down.

Even with my first class of the day done, I still have a few things to do around campus. I have to stop into Dr. Wynn's office to give him a rundown of what my expectations are for the next few weeks before the first break. I still have an hour or so before I need to be in his office so I decide to make a stop at the local coffee shop to check emails and get started on perfecting my next presentation for class.
