I stared at her laying beside me, looking amazingly gorgeous in the morning light. My hands absently played with her hair, and I could see a smile on her face. There was silence for a long while. "Chloe, can I ask you something?"
"Always. What's on your mind?"
"The way you've always talked about Rachel.. Did you have a crush on her?" I wasn't quite sure why I'd been thinking about that, but..
"Do you really want me to answer that?"
"Yes. I won't get mad.. I know I wasn't here for you like she was."
"Well, yeah, I did. She's smart, sexy and sassy.. Just like me, right?" Chloe just shrugged before continuing. "She was all that held me together after you left. Rachel saved me, just like you've been saving me since she's been gone."
I couldn't deny that it hurt a little, but of course I wasn't around and she would have been free to like whoever she wanted. Chloe must have seen the look on my face, and noticed my silence.
"Hey, no worries. Nothing ever actually.. Happened, with me and Rachel. I just liked her, in the same way I've liked you. But I'm dating you now, Max. And you know I love you, right?"
"Of course I know that, silly."
Still, it hurt. But I appreciated her honesty. I had no reason to worry that Chloe was still looking for Rachel. They were friends. So stop thinking too much into it, Max. I couldn't doubt her feelings, it was just something about the way she looked at me.. Like I was the only person around she could see. The only one she cared to see, the only one who mattered to her.
And yet part of me wondered how I could compete, if this Rachel girl came back. If she was so similar to Chloe, and they'd been so close...
"Good. And you better appreciate that you have one badass punk rebel girlfriend." Chloe's voice broke into my thoughts suddenly.
"That is so true. And I wouldn't have you any other way." I kissed Chloe and sat up, stretching. It was then I'd noticed that she grabbed my camera and held it up.
"Picture?"
"Of course." When I leaned closer to her, I gave her a kiss on the cheek and let her take the picture. Then we looked at it together, and I smiled. "That's a keeper for sure." I wanted to take lots of pictures with her. Hell, I wanted to spend every moment being with her. That feeling had only intensified when Chloe had agreed to be my girlfriend.
And we had only been dating a few days. What was it going to be like weeks from now, months even? My best guess was that my feelings and wanting to be with her would just keep getting stronger as more time passed. Because how could I ever tire of her.. Chloe was the greatest thing in my life.
Yet lately I had been worrying about Warren. He was like, my best guy friend. And last time he'd seen Chloe, she hadn't exactly been nice. But maybe he just needed space.
"Hello? Earth to Max..." Chloe whispered in my ear, and I laughed.
"You were saying something? Sorry."
"It's alright. You had that look you get when you're lost in thought. Still worrying about Warren?"
"Well, a little, but I'm sure he's fine."
"Yeah, he'll get over it." Chloe smiled, kissing and nipping at my neck.
"You're such a bad little perv."
"Can't be helped when I have you all alone, in my bed."
I shook my head at her and she kissed me deeply, pinning me down lightly with one hand while her other gently gripped my hair as if to keep me from pulling away. She kissed me as if she had an intense need, as if she wanted more of me. Was this always what it was like when Chloe wanted something? My cheeks heated up as I blushed hard, wrapping my arms around her neck.
Was it so wrong that I didn't want this to end? She had been my best friend for a long time, but this relationship we'd started was still fairly new.
The sound of footsteps outside her room stopped us both. "You girls want some breakfast?" I heard Joyce, Chloe's mother, call out to us through the door. She had always been okay with me staying over some nights. It was David that I was usually worrying about.
"Not now!" Chloe sounded a little impatient, and there was nearly a snarl to her voice.
Joyce shook her head at her daughters tone, even though neither of us could see her. "Come down when you're ready then." With that, her footsteps echoed away down the stairs.
"Such a buzz-kill." My girlfriend kissed me once more, quickly and lightly on the lips this time.
"Chloe.." I rolled my eyes.
"Maybe we could just have a little fun? Real quick like? You could actually join me in the shower this time! Mom wouldn't bother us there."
"I can't tell if you're joking or not." I stared quietly into her blue eyes as she lightly gripped my shirt and winked.
"Too bad, I'm not telling. I'm not sure you actually would, anyway."
"That some sort of challenge?"
"Possibly..."
Shaking my head, I left her alone in the bed and made my way out of the room, leaving Chloe to walk to the door and stare out after my in confusion. I almost had to laugh. From the look on her face, it seemed like she was wondering if she'd done something wrong and pissed me off. I waved her over to me and she stared for a moment before she followed. I shut the bathroom door and leaned in close to her ear. "As it turns out, I kinda like your little pervy punk ass. So I'll do it. This time. And then maybe we can go downstairs and get some breakfast."
"Wow, didn't expect you to say yes. You're a lot more hardcore than I thought."
"But you love that, don't you?"
"Hella yes." Before we knew it, we were both in the shower, and she pressed me against the shower wall slowly before kissing me deeply. "You're so fucking beautiful."
"Well aren't you romantic." I laughed.
"I can be anything you want me to be, Max. Or I can at least try."
"Nice to know." I smiled and she leaned in closer to me. My arms wrapped around her neck again as she flashed a grin at me. I could feel her hands on my hips. And feel my breath catch in my throat for a moment as time seemed to stand still, this moment with her seemingly dragging on forever. I couldn't tell if it was a good or a bad feeling. For someone who seemed to want me so much, Chloe sure had a way of dragging this moment out.
Almost like she wanted it to last. Maybe I did too.
(A/N: I swear... This is all I could think of to write.. And I'm not even sure it's good, at all. So, comments, ideas on what to write for my next chapter?)
