Movie Night.

The next morning I'd had to send Chloe away I could go to my classes. But it had been great as usual, spending the night with her like that. As I was getting back to my dorm after my last class, my phone rang. I looked at it and smiled. Of course it was Chloe calling me. If she wasn't doing that, she was normally just waiting around for me to have time to spend with her. I answered her immediately. "Hey."

"Max! What do you say to a movie night tonight?"

"I'm assuming you're already on your way to Blackwell, and you know I'd never say no to a movie night with you, Chloe." I sat down on my bed while I responded to her.

"You know me so well, see you soon." I could hear the grin in her voice. Shortly after that, she hung up the phone and I waited. A knock on the door followed soon after, and then Chloe walked inside the room. I smiled at her and she reached out to hold my hand. Then she dragged me out toward her truck.

For a while, we rode like that in silence. But it didn't matter, just being next to her made me feel happy. Even if we weren't talking or doing anything special. "So what are we watching tonight?" I asked finally.

"I dunno, I guess we'll figure that out. Scary movie marathon or something?"

I laughed softly and nodded. "Just don't chicken out on me."

"Are you serious right now? You'll be the one who gets scared.." She grinned.

I nudged her playfully. "I don't know about that."

"You're such a dork." Chloe chuckled. Rolling my eyes at her, I watched as she pulled up in front of her house and parked the truck before turning the key and pulling it out. "Well, come on." With that said, we both exited the truck and made our way to the door, which she held open for me. Joyce must have been upstairs or something, I didn't see her when we both were inside.

Without a word, Chloe closed the door behind us and walked toward the television. She picked out some movies and showed them to me, asking which one I wanted to watch. Thinking about it, I looked over them and pointed to one. "That one."

Nodding, she opened the case and put it into the DVD player as I sat down on the couch. As the movie started up, Chloe walked over to me and pulled me closer to her. I leaned against her, my head on her shoulder as we watched. Truth be told, I was shocked when after a while of watching, I could feel her body shaking. Upon looking at Chloe, it was clear that she was trying to keep her cool. With her attitude, people would think she was not afraid of anything. Sometimes I felt the same way. Looking back at the TV screen, I almost felt her jump at the horror scene playing in the movie.

"Are you scared?" I asked softly.

Chloe laughed nervously. "What, are you serious? Of course I'm not scared! You're the one who's scared.."

"That was such a bad lie." I shook my head and wrapped an arm around her to pull her closer. "You're practically shaking."

"Shut up, hippie." Chloe glared at me and I laughed softly as she reached out to grip a nearby pillow, hitting me with it once.

It was such a cute new side of her to see, so different from how she usually acted. Like she was ready to take on the world all by herself if she had to. It kind of reminded me of the old Chloe, from the time before I'd left. Before she'd dyed her hair blue and turned into this punk girl. I held her closer as we both fell silent again, watching. Chloe couldn't hide anything from me, as much as it must have embarrassed her to be scared like this in front of me. And it was again, so cute.

Nothing else in the world could ever compare to the sight of her now, a scared Chloe Price. Nothing could compare to her in general. That was my opinion.

If I had been anyone else, she might have just punched me for even bringing it up and move on. But there was a more gentle side to her when we were together alone like this. She was much more likely to punch someone else for messing with me. The way Chloe clung lightly to my shoulder now with her free, still trying to act like she wasn't scared, I almost wanted to laugh. The other hand was still gripping the pillow, her arm wrapped around it, squeezing it to her chest.

"You are just too cute," I muttered into her ear. "I think my girlfriend would be jealous of how adorable I think you are."

Chloe rolled her eyes at me. I thought she was going to argue about being called cute, but she just said, "Well who wouldn't be jealous when it comes to you?"

I smiled and kissed her cheek, only to see her muscles twitch slightly as she jumped a bit because of the scream echoing out from the movie in the moment after. "I'll protect you if anything scary comes for you." I grinned.

"I.. I thought I told you to shut up!" The way she yelled her words to me didn't sound at all harsh or cold, I could still hear the love and affection behind them despite her telling me to shut up.

"But it's kinda fun to tease you.. Besides, it was your idea to watch scary movies!" I told her softly, wondering how it was possible that she was getting more scared than I was.

Her cheeks turned red. "Just stop talking now." Shaking my head, I held her closer. It was a bit odd, to be teasing Chloe, holding her and trying to keep her from being scared.. But it wasn't like I didn't enjoy it. I rather liked this a lot. Chloe, noticing the look I was giving her, smacked me lightly. "Stop staring at me like that, watch the movie." Quietly, she gently grabbed my chin and turned my face towards the screen to watch. After all of that, there was more silence, and it was starting to get darker. Not much in the way of light aside from the TV screen. Somewhere in the back of my mind, I wondered if Chloe would be able to sleep tonight. But whether she was able to or not, I would be there by her side.

We watched a few more movies, then Chloe was dragging me up to her room, crawling into the bed beside me. "Will you even be able to sleep tonight?"

There was movement as Chloe shifted in the bed and faced me. "Well since you seem to think you're so much braver than me.. I guess you're going to protect me. Aren't you?" Chloe grinned.

"Always. But I'm sure you'd protect me, too, if I was scared."

"I told you I wasn't scared! But you're not completely wrong, I would always protect you."

I rolled my eyes and smacked her lightly. "Goodnight Chloe."

"Night Max." Chloe pulled me into her arms, and I ended up with my head against her chest. "I love you."

"I love you too," Came the soft reply from me.

"And you know I'm gonna get you back for making fun of me so much, right?"

I chuckled and closed my eyes. "I'm sure that you will."
