Lili's POV:

I slowly fell into line with everyone else, going back into my room. They were all happily chattering. I had listened to them at first, but it quickly became apparent to me that they were just idly talking.

Once we were in our room, I went straight to my bed. I honestly was getting a little sick of all this. I was stubbornly refusing to let myself trust anyone again. That kinda included being helpful and supportive of the people who are clearly having emotional breakdowns, and I'm almost physically restraining myself from breaking Bella's nose.

Yes, I have a slight temper.

But anyway: Something is really bugging me. Every time I see Ember on a meltdown, or something like that, and refuse to allow myself to help... I feel like I'm literally fighting my essence. Does that sound as crazy as I think it does?

Okay. I'm losing it.

"Hey, Lili, right?" Dang. Fawn walks over to me, a forced smile on her face. Apparently I'm already coming off as someone no one wants to willingly hang with... Oh joy.

I nod slightly in response. "Not much of a conversationalist?" I shrug. She sighs. "Sooooo... What do you think of those creepy guys?"

Aaaaaaand she inadvertently hits one of those soft spots that can get me rambling for hours.

"Well, they seem to know us and the Protector. And not positively. They are clearly working together, and, from what I've gathered, they're basically our enemies. One of them-Pitch, they called him-knows Ember very well. He knew her triggers, how her powers work, and clearly has asked her to join him before.

"From the reactions to Chaos, they called him, I'm guessing he's new. Definitely not good news for us. From their patterns of movement, and the nature of those wolves, I'm guessing that they're some kind of shadow spirits. Well, I'm guessing spirits. They could be something else, but I'm pretty sure they're spirits.

"Dark spirits avoid light and can control shadows and darkness. That seems to be what they did. Dark spirits, as a rule, hate light spirits. They are also usually evil, and thus hate good spirits. Since they appear to hate us, and we're the Protector's guest, I'm guessing that he's a good spirit, and/or a light spirit. If, of course, he's a spirit at all."

I hadn't noticed that everyone in the room had quieted and was staring at me strangely and listening intently. I was still rambling on about my half-connected thoughts in my quieted voice that was just above a whisper.

See, I'm slightly observant, I have a pretty good memory, and I'm way too obsessed with mythology. Put those all together...

"Mother Goose was most likely a good spirit. Yes, that makes sense. I don't know why she wants us, though. We're here for a reason, I'm sure. Both the Protector and Mother Goose seem to be far too important to waste their time on anything. So we must be here for some important reason.

"Caia-obviously-has magical powers, as does Ember. Tigerlily's newfound knowledge of languages seems to be magical, too. So some of us are probably good spirits, or something of the like.

"But then again, Tigerlily made mention of being related to, 'The Man in the Moon'. I haven't read that much about him, but I read these books called 'The Guardian Chronicles' once, that talked about this little bald man who lived in the moon and watched over the children of the world.

"It's been years since I read those, though, and I hardly remember anything about them. Maybe the Protector has them in that really big library I saw. If there is such a thing as a man in our moon, then it could be useful. Especially if Tigerlily's related to him.
