Present Day

Character POV: Roxanne

My bags are packed and loaded. I've let my land lord know I'm leaving and given back my keys, putting the David chapter, my chapter without Ariadne, firmly behind me. I shut the trunk on my 1966 red convertible mustang, and find Ariadne leaning against the trunk, back to it, with her arms cross in front of her. She reaches out to me, holding my wolf cane aloft. I reach out and take it from her, leaning on it and sighing at the slight relief from the pain. Ariadne's facing straight ahead, brown wavy hair cascading over her shoulders and down her front as she says, "I'm hungry." She turns her head, hair spilling over her shoulder to watch me as I walk back to the driver's seat. Slowly, she makes her way towards the passenger seat, opening the door. I open the door, placing my cane in between our two seats, before I put the key in the ignition and start the car. Once she's buckled up and the roar of the engine is filling our ears, she drums her fingers on the dashboard, turns towards me and winks, "Want to get a bite to eat?" With "My Way" by Frank Sinatra blaring from my speakers as we merge onto the highway, our laughter fills the air and we speed away to our next adventure.

THE END

Please note that there is a sequel that I am working on. It won't be out for a while, but when it's out, I will post it on my conversations feed. It will be entitled "Unsteady". I am currently experiencing eye health issues which prevents me from writing more. I should have that resolved within the next couple of months, and can then make good progress on the sequel. Thank you for reading this first installment.
