Sim Jayeun.

Son of Sim Tae-hoon and Sim Minjong. The fragile son. The child who was too kind for his own good.

From the minute Jayeun was born, he had his future planned out for him. His parents expected a perfect son, who would excel in school, steal the hearts of every girl, confidently take on every challenge, and the list went on.

Jake was good at school. He excelled in all his science and math classes. Regarding the arts, he was still exceptional, but not the rank holder.

Apparently, you need to be first at everything to be considered smart. At least, that's what Jayeun was taught. The harsh slaps he received from his parents when he slipped in history or struggled with Korean literature had become a part of his life by the time he was ten.

To them, it didn't matter if he could look at everyday objects and understand the principles of physics behind them. His passion for teaching and tutoring children was frowned upon, even though most kids he helped, ended up topping their classes within a week.

"Look at your teachers, half of them get paid out of our pocket, and most of them do dirty work to get here. You're saying that you want to be one of them?!?!" Jayeun's mother screamed.

His father slapped him across the face before tearing up the notes he had prepared for one of his juniors. "Fucking insolent brat, we have given you such a good life, and you want to throw it away to help these low-lives," Mr Sim seethed.

Jayeun could only let hot tears slip out of his eyes as he bit his lip.

"Stop bloody crying! You're fifteen! Are you a girl?" his mother yelled.

That was another thing Jayeun was reprimanded for, being sensitive.

Most boys are taught not to cry, to act tough and to be men. Jayeun wanted to be strong, he knew it was important to control your emotions. However, even in the darkest of times, he wasn't allowed to shed a tear.

"Men don't cry," his father had told him.

Jayeun would pinch himself at times to stop the tears from falling. He would try not to smile at everyone person who talked to him. He would try to act tough, but it didn't come easy to him.

At school, Jayeun was bullied.

You would think that someone as kind, smart, and handsome as Jayeun would be looked up to. However, his kind and sensitive nature made him an easy target for bullies.

Boys like him were expected to act cold, to have more 'masculine' features, and to not smile at everyone who passed him. Bullies took advantage of his kind nature and used it to corner him.

"What a useless piece of shit, you can't do anything right huh?" the boy said as he threw another punch. Jayeun whimpered on the ground, bleeding profusely. The boys above him snickered, pouring cold milk on him.

"I want my assignment done by tomorrow, and get me the money as well. Got it pretty boy?" the ringleader said, pulling Jayeun's hair sharply.

More tears streamed down his face and he nodded weakly.

Jayeun never told his parents about his troubles with these gangs. He knew they would only make it worse for him. So he let them take advantage of him, he did all their homework and classwork without fail.
