He got home around 9:10pm. Oikawa placed his uniform on his desk and packed his bag for the next day before heading to the bathroom to brush his teeth. He changed into his favourite hoodie and plaid pyjama bottoms before sitting on his bed. It was a cold night. He climbed under the blanket and picked up the book he was currently reading: No longer human by Osamu Dazai. 50 minutes later Oikawa heard a knock at his door. He whined and pulled his hood up. He checked the clock and realsied he must have fallen asleep reading. It was 10:20pm. His slender fingers delicately placed the book on his bedside table before standing to unlock his door.

"Iwa-chan, hey, what are you doing here?" He asked rubbing his eyes with a sleepy and groggy voice. His hair messily flopped in front of his eyes again.

"You didn't answer any of my texts or calls all weekend, and your mom said she hadn't seen you since Friday. She mentioned you two got into a fight after practice and you left not long after with a friend. She informed me you were back and said you immediately went to your room without uttering a word. Sorry for not getting here sooner I was busy and didn't see the notification." Iwaizumi spoke hesitantly as he stepped into the room. His face contorted with confusion and sincerity but his words laced with caution.

"Sorry" Oikawa mumbled treaded backwards a bit.

"So are you gonna explain?" Anger clearly leaking into his voice. 'He's pissed off at me. I've fucked up, I'm going to lose him.' Oikawa thought to himself as his chest began to feel heavy- as though he were sinking under water and couldn't get back up. Like his only fate were to drown. Heavy like weights have been strapped him to sink him quicker. His head slowly began to spin. He swallowed hard. Iwaizumi noticed his discomfort. His tone softened once again. "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine Iwa-chan, i was just busy, I'm sorry" a fake smile plastered on his face, voice sturdy, eyes looking down at the floor. His panic had subsided and his confident tone of voice returned. His hoodie covered the purple marks on his neck as his messy hair drooped carelessly over his eyes.

"Where were you?" He hadn't forgot.

"With Koushi" Oikawa responded climbing under his covers. "Come sit"

"Koushi?" Iwaizumi queried, sitting horizontally across the end of his bed climbing under the blanket. Oikawa gently rested his legs on the shorter male's. The shorter man's hands fell lightly on top, his thumbs cascading across the bare skin of his ankles. Oikawa felt his stomach flutter. His touch felt ethereal. Then he remembered what he saw, his heart sank once again. Chest heavy. Iwaizumi noticed this and squeezed him gently.

"Sugawara. He said I could refer to him by his first name so I do." Iwaizumi's heart stang a little bit.

"All weekend?"

"Yes" Oikawa remained calm despite finding the conversation patronising. He wasn't a kid after all, he was almost 18.

"Okay but next time can you text me, I feel like you've been really distant with me lately. You know if anything is up I'm here right?." He sighed.

"Shit I'm sorry, of course. I just had a lot on my mind and forgot but I won't let it happen again."

"Thank you, so what did you two do?"

"Not much" "just went out abs like movies ect"

Oikawa stretched out his hand and entwined his fingers with the dark haired man. They didn't do this often, but when they did Oikawa couldn't help but feel safe. He knew he was attracted to men now, but he refused to accept the idea of liking his childhood best friend.. His eyes glanced at the veins on his co captains hands and arms down to his fingers, which were interlocked with his own. He'd be lying if he said he wasn't attracted to him at least a bit. Hell. He's probably one of the most attractive men he knows. It hit him that they were holding hands again. His stomach danced. This closeness is all he could ask for. He craved it. All the time. Every second of everyday. It's all he wanted. But that's what best friends make you feel, isn't it?
