"Raymond! What are you doing here?" Paige asked, clearly annoyed.
"I'm not allowed to say hello to my big sister?"
"You followed us from the hospital, I don't think your visit is just a coincidence," she interjected.
"Let me correct you, Paige. He was already following me on the way to the hospital. Hi, my name is Elizabeth. Does it bother you that I'm in a relationship with your sister?" I said, introducing myself.
"You're not going to believe what she says, come on," he smiled hypocritically.
"Here, look, I took a picture of my rearview mirror. Are you the one who's been following me?" I challenged.
"Coincidence," he responded dismissively.
"Well, you know coincidences, they're as unlikely as little green men. I'll leave you with your brother, Paige. I'll go," I stated firmly.
"No, stay, Lizy," Paige pleaded.
"He's your family, I'm...I'm not. But we'll stay in touch," I said, acknowledging the pain in Paige's eyes as I left her. I got into my car and drove off slowly, still able to hear Paige yelling at her brother. I moved away and parked a little further down a path that led to some fields. Exiting the car, I removed the safety from my Sig Sauer. It didn't take long for Raymond to return, continuing his self-praising monologue, unaware of my presence. I quickly secured the safety back on. It was time for me to assess my own healing. Raymond may lack flexibility, but beneath his winter weight, there must be some hidden muscle. Without him noticing, I delivered a punch that knocked him down. He rose in a rage, and I welcomed his fists as he approached. His face initially showed surprise, then a twisted joy as he recognized me. But standing before him was not Elizabeth. His lack of coordination, strength, and technique became evident as I landed each blow with force. Each strike both hurt me and brought a strange satisfaction. When he failed to get back up and I stood in front of him, I knew I had made a mistake.
"Lizy?" Paige called out.
I turned my head to face her, observing as she hugged her arms, seemingly cold or frightened.
"Hey, honey. I had... a heated discussion with your brother," I confessed.
"You beat him up! Who are you?" she exclaimed, her voice filled with shock and confusion.
Before I could respond, a surge of nausea rushed through me. I quickly grabbed my phone and activated the flashlight function, but what caught my attention was the sight of blood.
"Damn it, I guess I didn't fix myself up properly," I chuckled weakly, wincing as I touched my ribs. The pain shot through my body, overwhelming me. "I don't feel well, Paige," I muttered, stumbling and colliding with Raymond's car before collapsing onto the ground.
"Lizy!" she cried out, panic evident in her voice.
I appreciate Paige's concern for my well-being, but I insist that she need to deal with her brother first before he wakes up and seeks revenge. Reluctantly, Paige hesitates but eventually rushes home. She returns with some baker's twine, and despite my pain, I manage to laugh and cry as she skillfully ties up her brother's legs and wrists, ensuring he is securely bound. Before gagging him, she checks his vital signs.
Through my tears and pain, I muster the strength to say, "I love you," but Paige doesn't respond. Instead, she places her hands on my side, causing me to cry out in pain.
"Congratulations, you did a good job!" she exclaims, her voice filled with both reproach and questions.
Paige assists me in standing up, her arm supporting me as we slowly make our way towards her house.
