It's raining.
I like the rain, it's stupid, I know. We are soaked from head to toe, depending on where we walk we get mud on clothes, shoes, but I like the rain. I like to listen to it falling as I try to fall asleep, I like to watch her behind my window, in my flannel pajamas with hot tea. I like to make love on rainy days. That's what Paige experiences this early morning as I cuddle. For her, it's Lizy the romantic who sticks against her, as delicately as possible and kisses her tenderly, but it's only me. I exacerbated my romantic and mushy side in this version of Elizabeth, she didn't see Elizabeth the bartender, she is my masculine side.
The hug ended, she helped me put on my sheath. It's a little tight, but at least I breathe and it preserves my ribs. I put my clothes on and Paige then really realizes who I am, once dressed in black cargo, a bullet-proof vest on the chair, with a belt holster, and back holster for my guns, rifle next to it. My computer is open and I am in a meeting with Martin. Paige listens but remains discreet, invisible, until someone knocks on the door and she passes in front of the screen to open and greet my colleagues.
"Who is this?"
"My doctor."
"A civilian is attending our meeting, Emily? Damn, what about the procedures?"
"She is assisting me with the investigation. I will have her sign an external contractor contract with a confidentiality clause if necessary. I live with her at the moment."
"Why? Your other address was compromised?"
"I am in love."
Martin said nothing before laughing out loud.
"Well, seriously, why are you at her house?"
"I sincerely love her, Martin. It's stupid, it doesn't happen to me often, you know that, but here it is. It happened. She is under my protection. Do you remember Carrie Goldman?"
"The journalist?"
"She was under my protection."
"Ok", replies simply Martin, when he hears me pronounce these words, he knows what I mean when I pronounce them. "So, the operation?"
We agree, the colleagues will intercept the military with the help of NCIS, and carry out the interrogations. On my side, I will search for the warehouse, confirm or not Raymond's information and, if I can, enter the building to photograph evidence, then wait for reinforcements. "You want me to send you your stuff? I have a plane ready to go, diplomatic package, you pick it up on the tarmac."
"I equipped myself undercover, Elizabeth has what I need."
"Watch out Reaper. Keep me informed."
"Like always."
"Emily, I'm serious, keep me informed, don't take any risks, we don't know what they have in their hands."
"I just got myself a girlfriend, you think I'm going to take any risks before I can enjoy her".
"Yeah," he said, cutting off the call.
I shake hands with my colleagues, we all wish each other good luck, and they leave, leaving me alone with Paige who remains seated, face crestfallen.
"How are you, sweety?" I asked, sitting down on a chair.
"What do I do now? I stay here, in the anguish of knowing if you will come back?"
I take a moment to gather my thoughts and consider Paige's question. It's a valid concern, and I understand her worry about my safety. I reach out and take her hand in mine, offering her a reassuring smile.
