Fit
Dalton found his famous law
That elements react in discrete whole numbers
While Brown discovered dust being kicked around
Thomson reasoned that a cathode ray
Was the particle that orbited Rutherford' nucleus
Bohr relegated Thompson's particles
To discrete orbits around Rutherford's nucleus
Allowing Lewis to explain chemical bonding
Which, in turn, made chemistry fit the model
Of what matter is actually compromised of

Precision
We measure to the micrometer
Produce parts to the nanometer
There are more transistors
Than there are leaves on trees
More cellphones than people
Precision is a bastion of technology
A work of art is imprecise
But will last much longer
Than any modern device

Ancestors
Our ancestors lived a different life
They interacted tactility with nature
We interest more vicariously
Life was hard but more satisfying
In the days before technology
We see the world on screens
Our compositions have negative space
Theirs was more earthy and vivid
Personal contact was face to face
Our contacts are in a phone list
We expect instantaneous gratuity
They accepted anticipation
Keep that in mind when you think of them
