"Steven as in the Steven that Quinn wants?" I ask.
"Yeah," He responds, "you must be Anthony, the other person Quinn wants." I nod, Steven gets close to me, "You're not safe, no matter how far you run, or how good you hide, she will find you."
I stay silent and he signals me to follow him. At one in the morning I just want to go back to sleep, but now that I know I'm wanted by someone, I don't think I'm going to be able to sleep again.
He leads me to this hole in the ground. We look at each other, I am so confused. "Bye." He says.
I stare at him, "What?" Next thing I know Steven pushes me into the hole. I expect to hit the ground and die, but instead I hit a net. I climb off the net and Steven comes down.
"That wasn't horrible was it?" Steven laughs, I fold my arms, "Come on, man up." He walks away sliding his hands in his pockets.
"Steven!" I call, he whips his head around and locks eyes with mine. "I need some answers," he glances at the watch on his wrist, like he needs to be somewhere, "now."
Steven drags me into an alleyway and leans against the wall, "Go ahead," he says, "ask me anything you want."
I have so many questions but they can wait, there's one that needs to be asked now. "What am I?"
Steven sighs, "People who are born here have a microchip planted in their brain that makes them think and act a certain way. You never have that chip implanted in you so your mind is almost limitless. But you're not alone, they're some people that the chip hasn't worked on, so they're just like you in that way."
I try to process all that information, I feels good to finally have answers. "Why does Quinn want you?"
"The chip didn't work on me." He answers briefly, and on that note he leaves. I watch him walk off, what now? Am I suppose to follow him?
Two people walk past me with the same tattoo as Steven. A boy and girl, both wearing black, the boy wearing a hoodie and skinny jeans. The girl wearing a miniskirt and a T-shirt that cut off so you could see her stomach, where the tattoo is. I should've asked Steven what it means.
I follow them to see where they go and what they say. "Stevens back," the boy says, "what do you think he was doing?"
The girl shrugs, "He told me he's going to see some friends and nothing more."
The boy groans, "Why is he so secretive about everything?" They stop at the end of the alleyway, I hide behind a trash can so they can't see me.
"I know he's been gone for about a week but I get the same strange vibe around Ze that I get around him." The girl says, almost at a whisper, like she knows someone's listening. How do they know who Ze is? Have I met them before?
"It's his eyes," the boy tells her, "they're almost identical." He's right, the blue and green in Ze's eyes look like they're fighting for dominance, like Steven's. He continues, "Except last time I checked Ze wasn't British."
She laughs, "Yeah, when are we gonna tell him and Anthony?" They know me, that's terrifying. At this point I stand up and slowly walk over to them without them noticing me. I pull off the boys hoodie.
He whips arounds, "Hey!" Gavin.
