Tom Riddle had just returned to his old flat in London. As he was unpacking his things, he noticed a post from the Ministry of Magic. Curious, he opened it and read the letter.
It was an offer to work for the Ministry of Magic, specifically in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. Tom was taken aback by the offer. He had always been interested in the law and how it was enforced, but he had other plans.
Tom had already decided that he would not work for anyone but himself. He had bigger plans and bigger ambitions than working for the Ministry of Magic. He wanted to become the most powerful wizard in the world, and he knew that working for someone else would only limit his potential.
Tom crumpled up the letter and threw it in the bin. He would not waste his time working for someone else, especially not when he had his own plans to fulfill.
As he sat on his bed, he thought about what his next move would be. He had learned a great deal from his trip to Albania, but he knew he had much more to learn. He needed to continue his studies and hone his skills if he was to achieve his ultimate goal.
Tom knew that he had the power and the intelligence to achieve anything he set his mind to. He was determined to become the greatest wizard of all time, and he would stop at nothing to achieve it.
With a sense of purpose and determination, Tom gathered his things and left his flat. He had a long journey ahead of him, but he was ready for whatever lay ahead. He would not let anyone or anything stand in the way of his dreams.
Tom Riddle made his way to Diagon Alley, the bustling wizarding marketplace. As he walked down the cobbled streets, he couldn't help but feel a sense of nostalgia. This was where he had started his journey into the wizarding world, and now he was back, stronger and more powerful than ever.
As he approached the storefront of Borgin and Burkes, memories flooded back to him. This was where he had made his first purchase of dark objects, and where he had learned about the power of the Horcrux.
He entered the store and was greeted by the familiar musty smell of old objects and the creaking floorboards. The shopkeeper, Mr. Borgin, greeted him with a nod and a smile.
"Good to see you back, Tom," he said. "What can I do for you?"
Tom scanned the shelves of dark objects, looking for anything that might be of use to him. His eyes fell upon a small, ornate box, which he recognized as a powerful artifact.
"How much for that?" he asked, pointing to the box.
Mr. Borgin's face darkened. "That's not for sale, Tom," he said. "It's a dangerous artifact, and I wouldn't want it falling into the wrong hands."
Tom's eyes flashed with anger. He knew that he could easily take the box by force, but he didn't want to draw attention to himself. He decided to bide his time and wait for another opportunity.
"Very well," he said, turning to leave. "I'll be back another time."
Tom leaned in and lowered his voice. "I've recently graduated from Hogwarts, and I'm looking for work. I was hoping you might have a position available here at Borgin and Burkes."
Mr. Borgin raised an eyebrow. "Well, well, well. It just so happens that we're in need of some extra help around here. You wouldn't be looking to cause any trouble, would you?"
Tom smiled. "Of course not, Mr. Borgin. I'm looking to make an honest living."
"Good, good," said Mr. Borgin, nodding his head in approval. "You know, Tom, you're a very smart young man. I think you could do very well here. What do you say? Are you interested in the job?"
Tom considered for a moment before nodding his head. "Yes, Mr. Borgin. I'm very interested."
"Excellent," said Mr. Borgin, clapping his hands together. "You won't regret it, Tom. We'll start you off in the stockroom, but if you prove yourself, who knows? You might even become a partner one day."
Tom felt a thrill of excitement run through him. This was exactly what he needed. A chance to work in the dark and mysterious world of magical artifacts. And he had no doubt that he would excel at his job.
"Thank you, Mr. Borgin," he said, his eyes gleaming with anticipation. "I won't let you down."
"I'm sure you won't, Tom," said Mr. Borgin, his eyes glinting with something akin to pride. "Welcome to Borgin and Burkes."
2 WEEKS LATER...
Tom Riddle was sitting in his office at Borgin and Burkes, staring at the blank parchment in front of him. He had been scouring the books in the store for any information about Horcruxes, but so far, he had come up empty-handed.
He had already searched through the most obvious sources - books on dark magic, ancient curses, and forbidden rituals - but nothing had given him the information he needed. He was starting to feel frustrated and discouraged.
Just then, he heard the bell above the door ring, signaling that a customer had entered the store. He quickly stuffed the parchment and quill into his desk drawer and put on his best professional smile as he made his way to the front of the store.
It was a young wizard, probably no more than a few years older than Tom himself, who was browsing through the shelves. Tom recognized him as one of the regular customers, but he couldn't remember his name.
"Good afternoon," Tom greeted him. "Is there anything in particular you're looking for?"
The young wizard turned to him with a smile. "No, I'm just browsing, thanks. I love coming in here, it's so interesting."
Tom nodded politely, but he was more interested in getting back to his search for the Horcruxes. He made his way back to his office and sat down at his desk.
As he looked around the cluttered room, he realized that there might be a clue hiding in plain sight. He got up from his desk and began to scuff between the books on the shelves, looking for anything that might help him.
It was a tedious process, and he was starting to feel disheartened again, when he noticed a small, dusty book tucked away in a corner. He pulled it out and opened it to the first page.
As he began to read, he felt a surge of excitement. The book contained detailed information about the creation of Horcruxes, including the incantation and the required materials. It was exactly what he had been looking for.
He quickly jotted down the information in his notebook and tucked the book under his arm. It was time to leave Borgin and Burkes behind and start his quest for immortality.
