Tom Riddle and Genevieve arrived at the Îles Éparses, a group of small islands in the Indian Ocean. As they stepped off their boat, Genevieve looked around and asked a local in French, "Excusez-moi, monsieur, pouvez-vous nous dire où se trouve Port-aux-Français?"
The man looked at her and replied in broken French, "Oui, c'est à environ deux heures de marche sur la côte est de l'île principale."
Genevieve thanked the man and turned to Tom. "He said it's about a two-hour walk on the east coast of the main island."
Tom nodded and they set off, walking along the rocky shore of the island. The sun was beating down on them, and the heat was intense.
As they walked, Genevieve asked Tom, "Do you think the American Ministry of Magic is involved in what's happening in Antarctica?"
Tom considered her question for a moment. "It's possible. They have a history of interfering in foreign affairs when it suits their interests."
Genevieve nodded thoughtfully. "It's disturbing to think that the American Ministry may be involved in something so dark and dangerous."
As they continued their walk, they saw a large building in the distance. Genevieve recognized it as the research station they were looking for. They quickened their pace and soon arrived at the gates of Port-aux-Français.
There, they were greeted by a group of researchers who were surprised to see visitors. Genevieve introduced herself and Tom, explaining that they were there to conduct research on the local wildlife.
The researchers were friendly and welcoming, but they also seemed guarded. Tom and Genevieve picked up on this and wondered if they were hiding something.
As they settled into their quarters for the night, Tom and Genevieve discussed their plans. They decided to keep a low profile and gather as much information as possible before making any moves.
The next day, they set out to explore the surrounding area. As they walked, they couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched. They saw strange symbols etched into the rocks and heard whispers on the wind.
They returned to the research station, feeling uneasy. Genevieve suggested they try to make contact with the local wizarding community to see if they had any information about what was happening on the ice continent.
Tom agreed, and they set out to find the nearest wizarding community.
NEXT DAY...
As Genevieve and Tom approached Port-aux-Français, she hesitated for a moment before leading him towards a small, dingy-looking building on the outskirts of town.
"Who is this person we're going to meet?" Tom asked, feeling a twinge of unease.
"He's a wizard," Genevieve replied, her voice low. "And not a very nice one at that."
As they entered the building, the air inside was thick with the smell of smoke and alcohol. In the dim light, they could make out the figure of a man sitting at a table in the corner, his face obscured by shadows.
Genevieve approached him and spoke in hushed tones, and the man turned to look at them with a glint in his eye.
"I see you've brought a friend," he said in a gravelly voice. "Who might this be?"
"This is Tom," Genevieve said, gesturing towards him. "He's looking for information on the darker aspects of magic."
The man snorted. "Well, you've certainly come to the right place for that. I am Henri, and I've been living here for many years, ever since I was forced to flee from the authorities."
