5 YEARS OF WORKING AT BURKIN AND BURKES WENT BY...
For over five years, Hepzibah Smith had made regular visits to Borgin and Burkes, always in search of rare and unique magical artifacts to add to her impressive collection. And during that time, she had formed a close relationship with the shop's proprietor, Tom Riddle.
At first, Hepzibah had been wary of Riddle, seeing him as nothing more than a shrewd businessman looking to make a profit off of her. But over time, she had come to appreciate his vast knowledge of the magical world, as well as his keen eye for spotting valuable items.
And so, as the years went by, Hepzibah and Riddle began to work closely together, sharing information and advice on everything from rare books to powerful enchanted objects. Riddle even went so far as to offer his services as a consultant for her collection, using his extensive knowledge to help her identify and authenticate items.
Hepzibah had grown to trust Riddle implicitly, knowing that he would never steer her wrong or take advantage of her. And in return, she had become a valued customer and friend to Riddle, always bringing interesting items for him to examine and occasionally even sharing a cup of tea and conversation.
But despite their close relationship, there was always an air of tension between the two, a sense that there was something more beneath the surface. For Riddle, Hepzibah represented the ultimate prize - a wealthy and influential collector with access to some of the most powerful magical artifacts in existence. And for Hepzibah, Riddle represented a potential protege, a young man with a hunger for knowledge and a thirst for power that could one day rival even her own.
But for the time being, the two continued to work together in harmony, each benefiting from the other's knowledge and expertise. And though their relationship was built on a foundation of mutual respect and admiration, there was always the sense that something more was brewing beneath the surface - a sense that, one day, their partnership might take a very different turn.
FEW MOMENTS LATER...
Tom Riddle was in his element, surrounded by the ancient and powerful Dark Arts artifacts at Burkin and Burkes. He was admiring a cursed dagger when he heard the bell above the door ring.
Looking up, he saw a group of Aurors entering the shop, followed by Minister Wilhelmina Tuft. His heart began to race as he realized the gravity of the situation.
"Tom Riddle," said one of the Aurors, his wand already drawn. "You are under arrest for suspicion of using illegal Dark Arts spells."
Tom knew he was in trouble. He had been practicing some of the most forbidden spells and curses, and he had not been careful enough to hide his tracks.
"Minister Tuft," Tom said, trying to remain calm. "I can assure you that I have not done anything illegal."
"We'll be the judge of that," replied Minister Tuft, her eyes narrowing.
The Aurors began to search the shop, taking an inventory of all the Dark Arts artifacts and questioning Tom on each one.
Tom knew that he had to evade the investigation if he was going to get out of this alive. He started to think quickly, trying to come up with a plan.
"I understand your concerns," Tom said, his voice steady. "But I assure you that everything in this shop is legal and above board."
The Aurors continued their search, but Tom knew that they would not find any concrete evidence of his misdeeds. He had been careful to cover his tracks, and he knew that he could outsmart them.
"Minister Tuft," Tom said, his eyes meeting hers. "I would like to propose a deal. I will cooperate fully with your investigation."
Minister Tuft looked skeptical, but she knew that Tom's knowledge of the Dark Arts would be invaluable to the Ministry. She agreed to the deal, and Tom breathed a sigh of relief.
As the Aurors finished their search and left the shop, Tom knew that he had narrowly escaped a dangerous situation. He would have to be more careful in the future, but for now, he had managed to evade the investigation.
As Tom Riddle breathed a sigh of relief, thinking that he had successfully evaded the investigation, he heard the sound of footsteps approaching the shop. The door opened, and in stepped Hepzibah Smith, a good friend of his who had a reputation for collecting rare and valuable magical artifacts.
Tom smiled warmly as he greeted her. "Hepzibah, it's good to see you," he said. "What brings you to Burkin and Burkes today?"
Hepzibah's face was troubled as she looked around the shop. "Tom, I'm afraid I have some bad news," she said. "I've just heard that Minister Tuft and a group of Aurors were here moments ago, investigating the use of illegal Dark Arts spells."
Tom's heart sank as he realized that he had not been as careful as he had thought. "Yes, they were here," he said, trying to remain calm. "But I was able to convince them that everything in the shop was legal and above board."
Hepzibah looked skeptical. "Are you sure?" she asked. "The Ministry has been cracking down on the use of Dark Arts spells, and they won't hesitate to investigate further if they suspect anything."
Tom nodded. "I understand the risks," he said. "But I also know how valuable my knowledge of the Dark Arts is. That's why I need to stay one step ahead of the Ministry."
Hepzibah sighed. "Tom, you're playing a dangerous game," she said. "If you're caught, it could ruin your career and your life."
Tom shrugged off her concerns. "I know what I'm doing," he said. "Besides, I have bigger plans for my future."
Hepzibah looked at him with concern in her eyes. "What plans?" she asked.
Tom smiled enigmatically. "That's something I'm not quite ready to share yet," he said. "But rest assured, Hepzibah, it's going to be big."
Hepzibah looked at him for a moment, then nodded. "Just be careful, Tom," she said. "I don't want to see you get hurt."
Tom thanked her for her concern and watched as she left the shop. He knew that he had to be more careful in the future, but he also knew that he was destined for greatness. As he looked around the shop at the powerful Dark Arts artifacts, he felt a sense of excitement and anticipation. He was ready to take on whatever challenges lay ahead, and he knew that he would stop at nothing to achieve his goals.
