"Mom, are you here?" Colby called, once we walked into his home. Tossing his keys into a glass owl by the door, he dropped his bag and my hand, taking off his shoes.
My jaw immediately hit the floor. It was like walking into a dream home. White walls, deep red curtains draped over the windows, keeping out some of the sunlight. Modern styled deep gray couches lined the living room with black and white throw pillows. Everything flowed together so well, I was jealous.
The house was massive. It was almost like walking to a celebrity's home, only no celebrity was home. I had never stepped foot in Colby's home since we started benign together. He was always coming over to mine, so I was nervous to touch anything at his mothers house. I was a fucking clumbsy person, and didn't want to break anything. Or ruin anything.
The events from last night flashed in my head, my pulse rate picking up. John was out. He was around, but no one knew where he was. Not even his own brother. Colby told me about the alteration they had after the game Friday. And as much as I wanted to leap for happiness that Nathan wasn't really a bad guy, he still was in my eyes. And Colby's too. Colby had admitted that when he first met Nathan, there was something off about him, and didn't trust a single word he said. I don't blame him. My sister caught him jerking himself off to his brother on top of me, before she shot him in the arm, as John tried to lunge for her....she shot him too.
I don't remember any of it, but it was in the police file. I hated her for a while after she told me. She said she didn't want to expose me to anymore memories because of the trauma I already had. But it didn't make sense to me, cause she was my sister. We never kept anything from each other since our parents died. I always asked why she kept it from me but she would always come back with, "I was trying to protect you from anything else. You've been through a lot, Jo."
Bullshit.
The following morning Detective William had called letting me know that a temporary restraining order was placed, and it would - or should - keep John at bay. My heart was grateful because I didn't sleep a wink before I had gotten his phone call. I kept my eyes on the security camera in my living room where Pepper was perched on my couch, curled and fast asleep. Something she always did when I would be gone for long periods of time. I fell asleep on the way to Colby's house, after the fact.
With that in order, I should be okay, but a part of me was still hesitant about it. I wasn't home, but there were lines drawn. I just hoped my Pepper would be okay.
"Mom?" Colby called out again, walking to the kitchen. He grabbed a small piece of paper that was on the counter, frowning slightly. Colby scrathched his jaw, whipping it away. Walking back over to me, Colby crumpled the paper, tossing it into a waste bin.
"She's out on a business conference meeting. Says she will be home later tonight. She must have left right after I did." Colby shrugged, as he pulled me to him, sighing. A smirk making its way to his lips. "Looks like it's just you and me for a while, Angel."
"Oh no, what will we do with our free time?" I asked sarcastically, mimicking his grin. His dimple showing proudly, his arms wrapped around me tightening.
"I could think of a few things I would want to do to you, right now, Jo." Cobly coraked, his fingers brushed against my cheek, feeling them heat up. Didn't matter how many times Colby touched me, or where, he always sent electricity through me.
"Show me around, lover boy. We can do that later." I giggled trying to shove him away, but he held me tighter, walking me backwards to a wall near the door. His eyes hooded over, darkening with desire, his hand never left my cheek. His eyes searched my face.
"Of course. But I want you to know." His nose brushed mine. " You are safe here, Jo. I promise you, nothing is going to happen to you while you are under my roof. Do you understand? Nothing, or anyone is going to get to you while you are with me. You're mine to protect, and I will go down swinging to prove that to you. My love for you is so fucking strong, Angel. Feel."
