*Four weeks later*
"Colby, dear are you decent?" A voice called from the other side of my door. I was laying in bed staring at the ceiling, my hands behind my head, nothing but some shorts, no shirt.
"Yeah, mom. Come in." I replied, not moving. Hearing the door click, my mom strode in, closing it behind her, shuffling herself over to my bed, sitting.
"One more week." She breathed after a moment, glancing my way, a small smile spread on her lips. "Are you nervous? Excited?"
"I'm ready to take on those fuckers, mom." I replied, earning a scolding look from her. I grinned. "Yes, mom. I'm very much excited for it. It's gonna be hard to leave you guys."
"Just me and Jo, or Trent too?" She winked. I chuckled.
"Trent will survive without me. He's got Greenberg, Jackson, and plenty of others. He's a big boy."
"I'm not sure,
"Have you been by her from today yet?"
Shrugging, I looked back over to her, sitting up right now, a pillow being placed behind my head. Jo was home from the hospital for the last three and a half weeks, he had hardly come out of her room my mom set up for her. Her sister comes by every now and then, checking in on her, and she even made herself a fucking key. My mom said it was fine, but I found it odd. But I wasn't going to get between three women and tell them otherwise. I wasn't dumb.
Two days after Jo was out of the hospital, the vet called Jo and told her Pepper was going to be fine, just had to have a cast for the next six to eight weeks for her broken leg, pain medication for her to take for the next week; and she had to wear a cone. It was ridiculous. Jo was overjoyed, and wailed all day to mom. She asked if I could come in and see Pepper and her for a few. She agreed, but didn't say a word to me. Hardly looked at me. The following day my mom took her to get Pepper from the vet, and she's been in her room nursing her back to normal ever since.
I don't blame Jo one bit. She was going through a tough time, and no matter what I did or tried to say to her, she wasn't responsive. I've given her space over the last few days, because of ours, my mother advised me too. She even tried to talk to Jo a couple of times, but no such luck. When Jo was released from the hospital, she cried to my mother for hours because she felt as if she was a burden in our lives by living here. She was going to get her house cleaned up, and sell it when she was able too.
Jo has not been over to that house since she was released, and I don't want her to. Especially if she was going by herself. Someone from my team, Trent or her sister would have to accompany her at all times she was over there. She agreed to it.
"Colby." My mom called out, snapping me from my thoughts.
"Sorry, mom. What?" I asked. Rolling her eyes, she sighed turning more towards me.
"Did you try to talk to her today? Maybe try getting her outside? Open her balcony doors for her, it's a wonderful day out." She suggested. "It's been a couple of days since you talked to her, Colby. Maybe try some more before you go in the next couple of weeks."
"I could, but she's also got her hearing two days before I leave too." I sighed running my hand through her hair. "I remember her telling me that."
About a week ago Jo got a letter in the mail from the courts and a final date has been set for the fucker to be sentenced; March 25th. Two days before I left for LA. She cried all day, and wanted nothing to do with me, but she was speaking to mom and Scarlett about it. I overheard their conversation more times, others I just tried to butt out. But I simply couldn't. My girl was hurting and I wanted to help her, but she needed her space. I understood that.
