"I will be downstairs if you need a minute. Okay?" Colby whispered to me. I nodded, gripping my now ripped to shred pictures of my parents. My house was a mess, my pride and joy, Pepper, was at the vets and was beaten an inch from death. Her fur, and blood was scattered all over the living room, as if someone was trying to redecorate my house.
Colby slowly let go of my hands, and disappeared down the stairs out the front door to Trent and Scarlett. Swallowing what I was able too, I took in a breath, my throat feeling dry and strangled. Tears blinding my vision, I turned staring down at my bedroom door. TI was cracked open.
My legs carried me down the hall pushing open my bedroom door, my heart hammering in my chest increasing with every breath. It was quiet in the house, except for the thudding in my ears from my heart. Of all things that happened, it had to be this. Sucking me right into the drama and turmoil over again. I was exhausted, and this had only been going on for a couple of weeks. I could hear bits and pieces of Trent and Colby talking outside, the house was that quiet.
It may have been quiet, but I felt as if there was someone else here.
But there wasn't.
I was alone...
Sniffling, I grabbed another duffle bag from the closet, and started grabbing more of my clothes, some of Pepper's toys she cared for. Zipping it shut, I grabbed a couple other things to fit in the side pocket of my vanity, when I saw it. I flash of brightness out of the corner of my eye, the reflection in the mirror. My eyes darted to the mirror, and my breath hitched, my heart now falling out of my ass.
There he was.
Sitting in the corner of my room, dressed in all black. Whipping around, my mouth ajar, my bag slung across my body. We made eye contact for a split second, before my eyes traveled to the floor, intaking a deep breath. His brother's body was on the floor, on his stomach, a pool of dark red coming out from under him, staining the carpet.
Nathan was dead. How the fuck did the manage to kill nathan when the cops told me that there was no one here when there was sweep done?
His finger went to his lips, as he stood slowly, already towering over me even at a distance. There was no fucking way the got taller. It was almost like he was seven feet tall. He did have a beard just like I remember seeing at the hockey game that night. His hazel eyes pierced right through me. My hands gripped the strap on my bag knuckled turning white, as he stalked closer to me. Dots of blood all over his face, a sneer grin stretching on his lips.
Moving his hand from his lips, his hand dipped into his pocket, grabbing a handful of silver casings - bullets. Adding them to a weapon covered by his sleeves that were much too long for him now, he pressed something cool to my belly, knotts tightening below the surface; a gun. My breath hitched in my throat feeling the coolness, underneath my shirt.
"J-John, what did you d-do to him?" I whispered, sniffling the snot back into my nose. My body shook with fear the closer he got to me. I was kissing my life goodbye with every breath I took.
Shrugging, John smirked small, his eyes boring into the side of my head. His breath fanned my face, and I could feel the bile gathering in my throat. I wished Colby was here dragging him down the stairs and outside to the trash where he belonged.
"Stay quiet, Josephine. So I don't have to use this thing again." His voice rasped, his other hand traveling to my bag, slowly removing it from my body. My hands are still attached to it. He cocked the gun back, making it click. "Drop it." I complied. Fresh tears falling from my face, I hardly breathe.
"John, please.." I whined, my eyes trained on Nathan's lifeless body on my floor.
"Please what, Jo? Please go away? Come back a changed man and sweep you off your feet? Let's face it, sweetheart, this is who I am, and there's no changing that." John gripped my waist, pulling me even closer to him. He had a hint of whiskey and mint to him, the memories flooding back to me.
