"Officers, thank you, it won't happen again, I can promise you that much." Laurel thanked the cops, embarrassed.

"Tell Mr. Fisher the chief wants to set up a tee time when he gets back in town" the cop responded back.

"Absolutely, sorry again for the trouble," she told him, "have a good night officers" she added, closing the door and turning to the teens.

"How could you guys be so irresponsible?" she yelled at them.

Nessa disliked being yelled at, especially by adults. Even if she knew she was to blame, she didn't like it when people even slightly raised their voices. Something Laurel quickly discovered when she confronted the girl about breaking one of Belly's dolls and Nessa simply flinched, breaking down in tears. Instead of listening to her yell at the teenagers, Nessa took out her phone and texted Atis to divert her attention.

She also wanted to talk to him.

'Hello weirdo' she texted him. He responded right away.

'N..?"
'Yup!'

'I was hoping you would text me soon

'Where are you from?'

When she felt a tap on her shoulder, she looked up, unable to respond to Atis. "Hey, are you okay?" Jeremiah asked, nudging her shoulder. He was also aware of her discomfort with confrontation. he wanted to make her feel better. he was worried about her. Nessa quickly nodded.

"Yup, I'm okay" she looked up at him.

"Just go to bed guys," her mom told them.

She was clearly disappointed in the group of teenagers. She trusted each of the boys to be responsible and not drink at the bonfire, and she trusted Nessa and belly not to sneak away and walk all the way to the beach by themselves late at night. they could have gotten hurt or worse kidnapped.

The five teenagers all climbed the stairs. Except for Belly, everyone is going to their own rooms. She followed Nessa into her room, holding frozen peas to her check. "Sleepover?" the younger girl questioned, causing Nessa to smile.

"Why not"

There was a knock on the wall as both girls were laying down facing the ceiling. That was Jeremiah's usual goodnight ritual. Nessa grinned to herself and knocked on the wall in response. She rolled onto her side, her back to belly. She couldn't sleep no matter how hard she tried. The only thing on her mind was the curly-haired boy in the next room. Not even the extremely hot guy she just kissed. Jeremiah. She had no idea she was the subject of his thoughts and mind. they were both clueless.

Nessa awoke the next morning to find her cousin had vanished. She was not in Nessa's bed. Nessa rolled out of bed, rubbed her eyes, and lethargically made her way downstairs. She was too tired to notice that she was dressed in a pink cropped top with dark blue and black checker pants that were far too big for her. She had to roll them around her waist to keep them from falling down. Her long hair was pulled back into a messy bun. Except for Belly and Susannah, everyone was downstairs.
