Six years ago, you would have never imagined that you would be the lady in waiting for Latrasil Valentine Tarium also known as Latil, the daughter of the Emperor of Tarium. It was a dream for a humble daughter of The Melosi Estate. Your parents and older brother were ecstatic knowing that you were going to be serving her royal highness seeing as he also worked at the palace.

You were nervous at serving her, scared that you might make a mistake and bring dishonour to your family. Only to find out serving her highness wasn't as nearly terrifying as you had thought. She was nice and patient with you and with the guidance of the head maid you had improved from the first time you had stepped foot in the palace. Her highness and you were roughly around the same age, the two of you would get along and in the future become each other's closest confidant.

One day, the prince of Karisen, Hyacinth Karisen, arrived in Tarium as an envoy and a scholar. Needless to say Latil and Hyacinth were head over heels the moment they met. They fit each other like two pieces of a puzzle. The two young nobles would soon become each other's significant other. You would frequently hear Latil talk about him to you and how he would express his love for her.

"He took me out to the lake the other day and we walked around sightseeing." Latil talked dreamily of Hyacinth while laying down on her bed.

"Seems like you had a wonderful time, your highness. Your cheeks are red from just thinking about the memory." You replied to her while also laying down on her bed beside her. This wasn't the first time you had acted comfortably in front of Latil. Instead you were quite tense the first time you met but Latil assured you that you needn't be so formal around her. So there you were laying down on her bed.

"Oh shut up, Y/n!" Latil buried her face into a pillow to hide it from your view. "You're just jealous. Besides, didn't I tell you to call me Latil? No need for this 'Your highness' stuff."

"But you're high-" She glared at you, stopping you from finishing your sentence. You sighed. "Alright Latil. I may be a tad bit jealous but you two are so cute. How could I not be?" You whined while hugging a pillow.

Latil giggled at your response. "I'm sure you'll find someone someday."

"You sure?"

"I'm sure. And I'll definitely be there to see it."

The two young noble couples were very happy spending time together. Doing what people do when they're in love.

That is until tragedy struck.

Hyacinth was called back to Karisen to stop his half brother from taking over the throne while he was in Tarium. Latil was heartbroken to see him go to fight for the throne. The two embraced each other and said promises before Hyacinth had to leave. Latil was left with tears in her eyes. You tried your best to comfort her, it worked a bit but it could not stop her from worrying for Hyacinth's safety.

After Hyacinth left for Karisen, Latil went to the temple everyday to pray that he'd be safe and you would accompany her there every single day.

Two years after that. The news that a new emperor had ascended the throne of Karisen reached Tarium and you and Latil's ears. Latil was thrilled to find out about the news. You were glad that Latil was no longer moping around and had returned to her old self. Albeit more cheerful than usual.

Two months had passed since the news of Hyacinth succeeding in reclaiming the throne from his half-brother.

Currently Latil was dreamily hugging her pillow all, her expression all sunshine and rainbows. She indeed was a lovestruck girl. You knew that she was missing Hyacinth and was patiently waiting for his return.

Suddenly she got up and struck a dramatic pose. "I must endure this time apart.... To become an empress worthy of Hyacinth!" It was as if there was some sort of light surrounding her to add to her dramaticness. You and the head maid just smiled at her antics.

"Don't worry, Princess. He loves you just the way you are." The head maid told her.

"Do you really think so?" Latil beamed at what the head maid said while leaning on her bed.

"I know so, my lady." the head maid replied while taking a seat at the edge of Latil's bed.

"Of course he does. He's in love with you as much as you are with him." You replied by also taking a seat on Latil's bed.

Latil got up from the bed humming a tune. She walked to her desk "Well, while Hyacinth safeguards the empire, I will be diligent in my studies." Latil said, taking a seat and picking up a feather pen. "I'll have to learn more about the cultural and social aspects of running an empire..." She smiled. "To be a good empress for him!"

You smiled at her enthusiasm at trying to be the best for Hyacinth and you helped her with her studies, wanting to support her every step of the way.

You and Latil were in Latil's room talking about nothing in particular when news of the delegation from Karisen reached your ears. Latil without much talk ran out of the room as fast as she could when she heard the news.

You chased after her knowing that she was excited since Hyacinth had promised to ask her hand in marriage after he reclaimed his throne. You mentally thought about how fast she was on her feet. I guess this is what love does to a person. Make you have enough energy to run to another empire and back.

Latil ran down a staircase alerting the guard posted there. "Your highness..."

Latil brought a finger to her lip telling the guard to be quiet about it. Then she took off running again. You reached the staircase soon after. The same guard looking at you sweat dropping.

"Latil please slow down! We don't want you tripping." You gasped out while your hands were on your knees. Out of breath but you took off running not long after.

You soon caught up to Latil who was hiding behind a pillar listening in to the delegation's conversation. You hid beside her out of breath from running. You really need to work out if you were to keep up with her in the future.

"The upcoming nuptials of emperor Hyacinth." At that Latil hid even more behind the pillar and you followed in suit.

"Therefore, we humbly request a delegation from the Tarium empire to congratulate his imperial majesty, Emperor Hyacinth, and his new bride." At the last word your eyes widened in shock at what you just heard.

"Ah, I see. Pray tell me, Who is the bride?" Who is the bride indeed? Who did Hyacinth decide to marry instead of fulfilling his promise with Latil?

"It is Lady Aini, Daughter of Duke Daga of Karisen." You got even more shocked and you could feel Latil tensing up beside you. You glanced at her face to be greeted with an expression as if she was told someone was just killed.

You reached out to grasp her hand and drag her away not wanting her feelings hurt even more. "Come on Latil. Let's go." You whispered. "I'll get a nice hot bath ready for you. Or would you like me to get you something to drink?" You asked, trying to comfort her.

She said nothing and replied too shocked for her own good with tears down her face and you stared at her with sympathy. How you wished you could help her situation. After wishing everyday that he wouldn't die only to find out that he married someone else is very much awful news. Maybe sucker punching the man would be good but that would only lead you to get beheaded as he is the emperor of another land.
