It wasn't real.
No, not really.
It wasn't fairy lights under a gazebo
Stargazing under the sky
Sneaking out for Moonlite walks
Dancing in the rain, our bodies in a warm embrace
It wasn't meeting the parents
Dates to the movies
It wasn't love at first sight
Maybe it wasn't even love
But it was hand-holding to class
Knowing smiles across the hall
It was a kiss in the snow
Our cheeks red from the cold
Maybe a little from shyness
It was midnight texts with our dreams
Knees touching under the table
Butterflies turning to a swarm of bees in my stomach
Shared jokes
Sugary laughter
It was jealous glances after the break
Tears on the pillow
Regret in my eyes
It wasn't a heartbroken
But it was a heart splintered
Maybe it wasn't real
But it was there
At that time
In that place
Maybe that's all that matters
