I drank the entire beer in one go then sighed and waved for the waitress to bring me another.

"Whoa." Caleb patted my shoulder. "Calm down. Slow down."

"Are you really going out with this guy?" Tion asked.

"Why?" I asked, thanked the waitress and allowed myself another swallow from my new beer.

"Because any idiot can see even though Leon abandoned you for so long, you still love him." Caleb pointed out.

"Yeah, that." Tion confirmed.

"Of course, I still love him." I frowned. "Just because I'm angry at him right now doesn't mean I don't. And just because I still love him doesn't mean I should put up with him just leaving. That's a huge red flag."

"I can agree with you on that." Tion nodded. "In a relationship, you don't just walk out."

"Even if you do walk out—it's just to take some time to calm down and come right back." Caleb pointed. "Man just ghosted you for months."

We sighed together.

"I really don't know what advice to give you on this." Tion admitted. "I can't make this one go away for you."

"Thanks for trying." I smiled. "I want to go home."

My friends didn't argue. Instead, they drove him home, hugged me and I walked toward the gates of my new home.

It wasn't a mansion, but it was enough space for myself, a small studio and a room for my sister. I figured that was enough for me to be happy. After a shower, I reheated some leftovers and sat down to do some edits while I ate.

When I finally crawled into bed, it was because my back was sore.

I was awoken late the next day by the bell at the gate. When I checked the camera, I wanted to cry. Sighing, I opened the gate and rushed into my bedroom to change. By the time the doorbell rang, I was walking toward the door.

"Mae." I greeted her with wai.

"I'm sorry to drop by your home." She gripped her clutch tightly. "But your job sites keep moving around. And I don't know your phone number."

Sighing, I stepped to the side. "Come in."

After offering her some coffee, I sat across from her knowing she was there on Leon's behalf. While I said nothing, that thought infuriated me.

"Before you get angry, Leon doesn't know I'm here." She set the cup bag in the saucer and crossed her leg. "I mean—I'm pretty sure he could guess."

I tilted my head to stare at her.

"Sorry." She sighed. "I don't want to waste your time. I'll get to the point."

"You're never a waste of time."

"Even if I'm no longer your mother-in-law?" She wanted to know.

I blushed.

She seemed to take that title very seriously.

'Mae kho tod." Mae offered. "Out of both my sons, Leon was the one I never understood. With him, I just had to love him a little harder and pray that's what he needed."

I looked out the floor to ceiling window then back at her.

"You see, with Leo, we all knew who he'd wind up with." She continued. "No matter who he dated, or where he went, he always wound up again at Fiat's side. Leon, on the other hand—we had no clue. He dated—a lot. Males, females—his father and I just prayed he'd settle down at some point."
