Chapter 2

I breathed a sigh of relief as I stepped outside, the cool air whipped around me like a comforting blanket. The shift was a nightmare, people genuinely seemed scared out of their wits to mess up the order for this so called 'terror'; they made several of the dishes just to ensure that one of them would be correct for him.

This was too much and to do this 3 times a day seems like torture, I'm surprised that they don't end up having heart attacks. The door opened again and several of the maids stepped out, equally as tired and stressed. "Good Evening" They called still attempting a cheery tone.

"Good Evening" I said in a reply with a small smile on my face. I watched as they stepped off of the porch and into the chilly winds. Various lights illuminated the outdoors showing the grand monstrosity that was the palace garden. The long skirt and shirt provided enough warmth without the need of an added jacket.

"Are you ready?" Aslan said as his hand met the small of my back, I nodded as he led me off towards the smog filled forest. "How was your shift?" He asked in attempts to make small talk. I bit my lip before beginning to speak.

"It was rough, I can't deny that. I'm glad I didn't have to go upstairs."

"They're nothing to fear, Soleil, just some royals." An unattractive snort left me before I could cover it and it quickly led to full blown giggles. I slapped his shoulder. "Soleil! I am appalled you would turn to physical violence to hide your embarrassment!" My smile slightly faulted as I thought of my dad but I shook it off.

"Mr Hyde! I am appalled you would think so lowly of me!"

"Oh, please Pumpkin, how may I ever think you're a lady again?" He gasped and clutched his chest. Running behind a tree, I shimmied out of my clothes and shifted into my pretty red wolf. "Oh, I see, you're not a lady, you're a beast!" He hid too before shifting.

'How could I be a beast compared to you?' His large sandy wolf just stared before letting out a weird choke. 'Race ya?'

'You're on little girl' He shot off with me quick on his tail, looking behind him every so often. I lightly nipped his tail. 'Violence! You're abusing me!' I laughed in my head before leaping onto him. We stopped in a meadow, me standing on top of him.

'Say you're sorry!'

'For what?!'

'I don't know, for running fast?'

'Never' He knocked me off and I lay beside him, staring up at the stars. 'So, how'd you get here? Most of the time to get a job here, you have to be born into it.' I let out a short sigh.

'The council, what about you?'

'My father gambled away my trust fund, and I'm the best friend of the price, so, he said he'd get me a job in the castle and I'm taking training to be a warrior like many of the wolves, but most of the time he bunks me off work so we can hang out' A menacing growl broke the silence, I shot up as did Aslan and we scanned the trees. A wolf, twice the size of I slinked out of the shadows, its lips pulled back from its saliva drench teeth.

'Soleil, go.'

'No, I'm not leaving you.'

'I need you to alert someone, when you do STAY INSIDE' I hesitated. 'Please, Soleil-' without a second to lose the rogue sunk its teeth into Aslan and I let out a screeching howl. With sensitive hearing, I could no one moved. I looked back to see Aslan equally sinking his teeth in. I dashed, my claws ripping into the ground as I headed towards the palace more of my howls filling the air as I did so. A door slammed open as I reached the edge and a muscular looking guy stepped out. He body was clad in leather armour, and held a slight authority to him. Letting out a short sort of bark I motioned where Aslan was. I shifted back, hastily placing my uniform I rushed inside.
