King Nikolai in the gif
Chapter 3
A month had passed since I first was introduced to the royal household, my duties didn't seem as though they were stress inducing and seemed rather natural. Aslan and I remain close, continuing to run after every shift. The aftermath of the rogue attack resulted in heavier guards, and more shifts being added.
"Oh Soleil, I need you to do me a massive favour."
"Of course Mrs Fergus, anything." She looked hesitant, but composed herself as she pushed back her hair.
"I need you to tend to the youngest prince, now I normally wouldn't ask the newbies but I've seen how you interact with Philippe's child and no one else seems to be free."
"I'll go straight away." I passed her the dishes from my hands and began to make my way upstairs.
"And Soleil, don't let him get close to you, he's a nipper. Use the intercom if he needs any food or drink or toys. You shall now be his personal nanny, which means you'll be taking him to every meal, ensuring he is on his best behaviour in public and take care of him when he is sick. Today, he shall be going outside with his family; you will remain in the back, in full uniform. Keep him on a tight leash." Personal nanny? Confusion overtook my face before being smoothed out.
"Are you sure that I'm the right person for this job? Aren't you supposed to go to special royal nanny school to ensure your care is best?" She waved away my whims before turning me and pushing me up the stairs. My feet led towards the top floor, before walking to a door that emitted hints of a child living there. The sound of laughter drifted out, before being interrupted with my knock. Mutters before the door opened and there stood a six year old boy.
His cheeks were chubby with a slight redness to them, his eyes a large round hessonite and his hair was in a shaggy cut with which was mainly a dark brown with a copper tint. He wore simple dinosaur pyjamas.
"Who are you?" He blurted out, his eyebrows furrowing down, creating small creases in his forehead.
"Your highness" I gave a full curtsey. "I'm your new nanny, Soleil." I stated simply. He stared for a few seconds before letting me in.
"I'm Prince Aleksey. Did Nanny Agatha quit? I knew she wouldn't last long." He said, quite smugly. I stood in his grand room, bookcases, toy boxes and a large bed sat in his room which overlooked the centre of the palace.
"I am unsure, sir" We stood in silence for a few minutes. "You might want to get dressed, sir, breakfast will be beginning shortly."
"What if I don't want breakfast?"
"Sir, I advise you to eat breakfast, you'll want a full belly for a day of public outings."
"Get my clothes ready for me, I want to see whether I'll keep you or not." I nodded and waited as he walked into the bathroom. Making my way over to the wardrobe, I pulled it open. Strange, it appeared to lead into another room filled with clothes of all different kinds, ranging from suits to lacrosse outfits to onesies. I pulled him out a Polo Ralph Lauren shirt, chinos, boat shoes, a cashmere blazer and a Burberry scarf.
He waltzed back out, deciding my choice was acceptable and changing into the clothes as I gave him privacy. "You can come back in now." I peeked my head round the door and smiled as he looked quite smashing.
"Are you ready for breakfast?" Curious as he looked at his reflection before nodding, taking my hand in his as he tugged me along.
"I've decided I'm going to keep you for now, how long are you planning to stay with us?" I faltered for a second. How long was I planning to stay here? Another month? Another year? Or perhaps longer? That wasn't the only thing that faltered me, he was so sure of himself, wanted to know the exact plan of his future with me as his nanny.
"Just until I get back onto my feet, sir."
"Yes, but how long is that?"
"For quite some time sir, maybe a year." He nodded.
"Will you be my nanny for all of that time?"
"No, I shall continue with my chores while you are busy with schoolwork and royal tasks." We stopped outside of the grand dining room. He looked at me one more time before opening the door; he waltzed over to his seat while I stood beside Aslan.
"New duty?" He chuckled as I glared at him. The royal family all began filing in, sitting beside each other and engaging in conversation. The Queen, Florentine Valdez-Volkov sat gracefully at the head of the table, her hand enveloped in her husbands. She was beautiful, something straight off of the cover of the magazine, natural highlighted blonde hair fell past her shoulders in waves, and her eyes were very similar to the eyes of her son. She looked stressed, a slight crease in her forehead. I looked down.
She and the King were mates, they shared a bond unlike any other on this Earths, their love for each other would never dim nor could they love another on this planet the way they loved each other. According to another Nanny, Pamela, when you first see your mate it is as though time itself stops, your heart rate quickens, your palms clam up slightly and your heart skips a beat. As your eyes meets for the first time it is sealed, they know as well as you do that you're destined for each other, it is as though an invisible, elastic force brings you closer together. The fates themselves along with the goddess herself decide who is mates with who.
The footmen were serving the food, offering several beverages and platters of delicious looking food to each royal they passed. We each patiently waited for the royals to feast on the foods that were lovingly made; we were relieved when they left the room. I walked towards Aleksey, his hand met mine and we walked towards the front door. He let go once he saw his mother and I quickly rushed downstairs changing out of the apron and into a floor length coat.
I and Pamela were met upstairs by several guards and the royal family. We watched as several cars pulled out in front of the Palace, each black windowed to ensure the press could not catch a photo of the royal family. Aleksey sat beside me in the car, playing with his hands.
"What are you nervous about, sir?
"I don't like the press"
"It's what the guards are for, they'll keep you safe."
It took an hour before we stopped outside a small village not far from the Palace. The doors opened and Aleksey stepped out, followed closely by me and a guard. He joined his family and gripped onto his mother as the terrified child was introduced to many people.
My heart was with him, the stresses of a upholding a public image, not allowing people close and staying safe was too much for such a young kid. We trailed behind them for the majority of the day before the Queen approached us.
"Your Majesty" We said as we fully curtseyed.
"Take the children home, they're becoming irritable and don't need to be out any longer. Ensure they've had a proper meal and keep their spirits up." She kissed each of the children before allowing us to take their hands and pull them into the car where they slept.

The clock began to chime 9 in the evening and the time where putting the children to bed came.
"Nanny, read me a bed time story!" Aleksey said as he jumped on his bed.
"Only when you calm down," I gently scolded. "Hmmm, what kind of story are you requiring?" I asked as I walked over to the bookcase.
"Cat in the Hat!" I smiled, pulling the slightly tattered book out and opening the cover. In scrawled handwriting it read:
'This book belongs to Deimos Theodore Valdez-Volkov and Aleksey Igor Valdez-Volkov'
"Aleksey, who is Deimos?" The prince's face contorted into a large smile, showing that some of his teeth were missing.
"That's my big brother; he doesn't come round a lot anymore because he got sad that he couldn't find his mate, he's old - 24 to be exact. But before he got sad he always liked being with my mummy and my daddy and me. He used to spend all his time with me." He pulled himself into bed, and pointed towards a picture on the wall. An older version of Aleksey sat with a him in his arms, smiling at the camera. "I miss him."
