Chapter 9

I stood, gazing at the dress that I had chosen, as I stood in front of the mirror. It was tight fitting, mermaid style which was cream and covered in lace and pearls. My hair curled and pulled up into a bun with a small tiara sat on the very top. Florence's necklace rested against my collar bones.

I looked beautiful, the shopping trip that I had spent finding the dress, however, was a chore. I gently smiled as I recalled that day.

'We were all sat in the changing rooms, slumped in the seats as Anastasiya tried on dress after dress, letting out huffs of frustration as they either 'didn't fit right' or 'not the right colour'. We all knew when we went in the first shop, she had fallen in love with a simple baby pink princess dress but she couldn't just accept it in case there was another dress that was better.

"Anastasiya, please, just get the dress from the first shop, I'm tired." Whined Irina as she fiddled with her phone. I couldn't agree more with Irina as I stretched on the comfy seat. We had been shopping for 5 hours now, after a quick morning wakeup no thanks to Anastasiya, we had been shoved into the car.

"But there might be a better dress!" She stopped her foot, a scowl filling her face.

"There isn't, you've tried on a hundred dresses, get that one." Svetlana played with the hem of her t-shirt, sighing every time she glanced at the clock.

"Fine, I'll get the dress, but if I find a better one, one of you lot are going to buy it for me."'

"Little fox, are you ready?" Florence asked, gently knocking on the door. Butterflies erupted as I opened the door, smiling up at Florence. She looked stunning; her red dress clung to the top of her as it then erupted in a red fountain. A large crown sat above her head. "Now, you remember what you need to do?" I nodded. We would enter through the doors at the entrance of the ballroom, before descending down the stairs, and meeting our mates at the end of the stairs; then glide gracefully through ballroom where we would have the first dance. "Here, wear this."

She placed a red sash over my head, the family crest on the bottom in a golden brooch form. Squeezing my hand, she pulled me down to the doors. "Are you ready?"

"Nope." She giggled, she thought I was joking. My heart hammered in my chest as the fanfares interrupted the chatter.

'Introducing your Royal highnesses - Queen Florentine Valdez-Volkov of Vikentiy, and Princess Soleil Archimedes of Vikentiy'

The doors swung open and we walked in, crowds of women in beautiful dresses and men in their military uniforms watched as we entered. Deimos stood, smiling up at the end of the stairs, my heart swelled as I smiled back, keeping my eyes on his as I made my way down the stairs, careful not to trip.

I had finally reached him, thank goddess, his hand engulfed mine and he laid a kiss on my cheek before leading me off to the dance floor. This was almost surreal, going from living in the Wolfgang pack to moving here. He pulled me close, before letting go and placing our hands a small distance from each other in the air; I was giddy as the violins began to play.

We circled, mischievous looks shared as we stopped and circled the opposite way, before the music picked up and the excitement became evident on his face. Lifts, twirls, and dips began to fill the ballroom as more people came to join in.

The dance ended, and we came to a stop, gazing into each other's eyes. We were led away to a table, seated beside each other we sat down. Rows of other Alphas after us, my eyes stopped at one in particular, Matthias Storm, Alpha of the Wolfgang pack. My stomach turned over, just thinking about what he did made me queasy.

Deimos sensed my discomfort, squeezing my hand, I hadn't told him what happened and I didn't plan till long after this dinner was over. 'Are you alright, love?'

'Yes, darling, stop worrying.' Plastering a fake smile, I watched as various foods were laid out in front of us.

The evening was nearly over; my feet killed as the last of us were still dancing. We had made our way around to many of the Alpha's greeting them and thanking them for coming. There was still one Alpha to go, and he was not one who I wanted to speak with.

"Come on, Lisichka, one more before we can retire to bed." I nodded, holding tight onto his hand as we took the very few steps to the man with the balding head and the crazy eyes. I wish I could say that I walked over fearlessly, with no shake to my body whatsoever but that would be lying. My hand shook in Deimos' as we stopped in front of him. "Alpha Mathias!" He greeted him easily, shaking his hand and giving a slight friendly welcome.

"Prince Deimos and lovely, little Princesse Soleil." He reached towards me, kissing both of my cheeks as I did the same.

"Alpha Mathias." I think my stomach just rolled. It was like kissing the cheeks of the devil himself.

"How is your pack?" Deimos asked, curiosity filling his voice.

"Ooh, I'm glad you asked, we've been dealing with a lot of potential treason recently, so we decided to make an example of them. I can't remember who they were but we strung up the mother and father, made sure they knew their place and suffered, tortured them for hours on end. Then it came to the children, one wasn't much older than the Princesse herself, ran similar names I think, we had her forget her sister, made an example of her too, made her consume their hearts. Meanwhile, with the other sister, we turned her against her sister. Both of the girls had been tortured, we made one believe it was the sister who did it to her, and the other we made sure she remembered us. I can't remember what happened to her after that, probably died, I don't know. Nasty traitors anyway"

"Great work, we all hate when they turn us against them. I'm glad you made an example of them, and what you did to the girls, I must admit was imaginative." My heart stopped; did her mate really just say that? I ripped myself away from him, tears streamed down my face. How could he talk so lightly of it? Like they were nothing? And how could Deimos just say that? She couldn't believe either of them.
