Amara's POV:
Monday and Tuesday at school went by like any other normal day. And that made me kind of sad. I know I shouldn't be looking, but I haven't seen Cole at all. Not since the night he told me to stay away from him. I haven't see him in the library, or in the halls, or even in Ms. Greene's class.
Speaking of AP Lit., Luke, Ella, and I have been working on it a lot in class, but we're planning to meet up again this weekend to work on it some more. Luke said he'd fill Cole in on what he's missing.
It's Tuesday, and school is now over. Tomorrow is Halloween, so we get the day off, which is pretty nice. I'm going over to Ella's house today to hang out, so she gives me a ride with her after school.
Her car is nice, it's a white Jeep, which I think fits her pretty well. Her family has a lot of money, and she says it's because her dad works in the oil industry. Ella is sure to tell me all about how much she disproves of her father's job because of how detrimental fossil fuels and oil drilling are to our planet, and I agree.
Ella and I hang out at her house for a while, and I haven't had so much fun in years. Ella is carefree and outgoing. Even though I'm a naturally quiet person, I found myself talking, laughing, and gossiping with Ella non-stop. It felt good to be so comfortable with someone else.
She also referred to me as her 'girl friend,' so now I can finally, and confidently, say that I have a friend. Just the thought makes me happy; I never thought in a million years that I'd make a friend again...
"So," I begin, "What's really going on with you and Luke."
Ever since this weekend at Cole's house, I knew something was happening between them, so I figure: Why not ask now?
"Oh my gosh, stop!" She drawls playfully, smiling from ear to ear, "We're just talking and stuff, nothing super big. I mean we hooked up a couple times, but it's not like we like each other a lot or anything"
"Ella, you're blushing like a madman right now," I laugh, pointing out how flustered she got when talking about Luke.
"Well, if we're going to talk about blushing," she teases playfully, "Let's talk about you and Cole."
She bursts out in laughter when the smile is wiped off of my face and I immediately turn pink.
"Now, he and I are actually nothing," I answer, sounding more disappointed than I'd like to seem, "Plus he hasn't talked to me at all since Saturday."
"Ahh, the classic man-move," she sighs knowingly, "Well, I know how you can make him come running back." She wiggles her eyebrows up and down.
"I don't want him to come running back, he probably has his reasons," I try to reason innocently.
"Bullshit! You and I are going to Luke's party tonight so you can show Cole what he's missing!" Ella exclaims excitedly.
"I don't know, I've never been to a party before.." I admit timidly, not wanting to look lame.
"It's okay, you'll love it! Plus, we did say we would get you drunk, so this is the perfect opportunity!!"
I mean, I did say that I wanted to be less of a loser, so I might as well try. Plus, my mom and brother are both gone tonight, so it's not like they'd miss me either.
But if I do go, I'm not going for Cole. I'm going for me.
"Alright, but I mean," I stay timid, "I don't even have anything to wear.."
"Girl, I'm so disappointed. You should know that I basically have an entire mall in my closet! I'll find something for you— one sec!" she declares as she skips over to her walk in closet.
A minute or so later she comes out holding at least 8 different dresses. I can tell by her expression that she's going to make me try on every single one until we find the perfect look.
Here we go...
* * *
About an hour and a half later, we've finally gotten ready.
After we do our makeup, which is fairly light and natural, Ella decides which dress I should wear for me since I don't know which one to pick. I end up wearing a red mini-dress that perfectly accentuates my figure. I love it, but I feel so exposed. My boobs are practically falling out already, so I know I won't be moving a lot tonight. I can't risk accidentally flashing someone... (Picture of the dress is at the top of the chapter)
Because it's a halloween party, Ella says that I need to make a costume out of the dress. So, she brings out her old costume attire from years ago: a bow and arrow, wings, and heart-shaped shades.
Ella is wearing a black mini dress and mouse ears. She also drew little whiskers on her face with her black eyeliner.
Cupid and a mouse; what an interesting combination...
"We look so hot," Ella explains.
I nod my head in agreement. We do look pretty good. Makeup and the right dress are like magic...
We leave Ella's house at around 7:30 to start heading over to Luke's house. In the car, I can't stop getting nervous and worrying about what I would do if I saw Cole there.
I make myself a promise to try to forget about those rich, green eyes for one night.
