"He's one, he's one!" Benny shouts at the top of her lungs, dying to the last enemy and leaving me to clutch the one on one.
Everyone makes sure to jumble each other's callouts all at once, making me hiss, "I can't hear!"
The room falls silent as I make my play. When the enemy player peeks into me, I let loose, choosing to hit him in the body until he brains me from afar. With my death, the game ends in defeat. Already, the other team spams the chat with insults and laughter, having been provoked by Benny's toxicity beforehand.
"One health, by the way," I swivel in my chair and glare at Benny, "I wish I could mute you in person!"
Benny points at her screen when the rest of the room agrees, "You saw how many bullets that bitch ate! How wasn't he one shot? Dumbass game, dude, I'm telling you!"
I roll my eyes as Tobi pulls her hood over her face and groans, "G-Guys... I was th-throwing. I'm s-sorry."
Jill pats the girl's back, a sharp, toothy grin plastered over her face despite the loss, "You'd think Benny was throwing after the whiff of the century I just saw."
A soda bottle thunks against Jill's head, and Tobi snorts with laughter. Clocky – who's sat beside Benny – points at the blonde girl, making Jill rise to her feet, teleport behind her, and lock her in a choke hold.
"Wasn't... me!" Benny frantically slaps Jill's arm, "Stupid bi-" her sentence is fragmented when Jill tightens her choke.
"Okay, okay, that's enough," I stand up and separate the two, "Let's take a break for now."
Clocky sneers, "Really? It's not even two in the morning."
"I said a 'break', Clocky; I never said we'd be stopping," I pick up the empty bottle that hit Jill, "I'm going to get us some more stuff. Anyone want anything?"
Benny kicks an empty energy drink over to my feet, "Another Monster."
"Th-Three more w-waffles!" Tobi smiles, having removed her mask, "With-"
"Syrup. Right," I nod, "Clocky?"
She wipes chip debris off her tank top, grumbling, "More kettle-cooked chips, actually, maybe... please and thank you."
"Jill–" I pause, realizing she's gone from the room, "Jill?"
When everyone else glances around, Jill reappears, slamming a bag of candy on her table. Meanwhile, I turn to commence my quest for snacks as she giggles, keeping Benny back from her stash with one hand. I leave the room and shut the door behind me, their scuffle now muffled as I stand alone in the dark hallway. A dim light emanates from under Angel's bedroom door.
Moving on, I continue on to the main stairway leading to the front door. The lights outside illuminate the streaks of rainwater curling down the windows. With the entire mansion lifeless and asleep, it's hard to feel anything but unsettled while roaming its dark halls. It's only when the lights are off that the creaking floors, whispers of my name, and the spectral footsteps make themselves apparent. The haunting activity quickens my trek to the kitchen, the feeling of being followed sticking to me the entire way.
The fridge envelops me in its cold light as I scamper into its chilling interior. Along the shelves, I search for the energy drink Benny wanted. Instead, I find a bottle of blood left unopened by Jackie. I pick out a can of Monster and grab frozen waffles before making my way out, but I stop in the doorway, my mouth parched. I glance back into the fridge.
Within a few strides, I snatch the blood bottle from the shelf and pop the cork. I don't even take the time to inhale its intoxicating scent before pouring it into my throat. The sticky, cold, coagulated blood bathes my tongue while I gulp the dark liquid down. The bottle empties before I've had my fill, and I frown, searching the shelf for more but finding nothing else to satiate me.
