The glass of whiskey slides out of my hand and shatters on the floor.

Jess jumps at the sound, "What the fuck? (Y/N)?"

Standing up, I clasp my hand over my mouth and swallow the bile rising in my throat, "I'm gonna be sick."

"Want me to get Ann?" Jess puts her hand on my shoulder.

"No!" I order, keeping the phone on my ear to listen for Scarecrow's words.

Jess's hand retracts as I walk into a deeper corner of the basement. I close a rickety door behind me, and dust is swept up into the air. Eyes stinging and lungs heaving, I wave away the dust and look around the room full of old furniture as I cough. My legs shake and I sit down in one of the old chairs.

It creaks under me as I slap a pale spider the size of a dinner plate off of my shoulder and shiver, "Is... Is Zalga going to attack?"

Scarecrow murmurs into the phone, and I have to increase the volume, "She is preoccupied with herself. Well, her male doppelganger."

"What?" I whisper, watching the massive spider scurry under a couch, its legs clacking against the floor.

"Zalga believes this... 'Zalgo' is a threat to her. She's going to level his castle and build hers in its place," she explains.

"Will she attack the mansion afterward?" I press, making sure Jess isn't eavesdropping before lowering my voice.

A finger drags down my back, and I leap out of my chair, seeing nothing behind me. I feel my back to make sure there isn't another spider clinging to me.

Scarecrow's voice brings my attention back to the call, "I don't know. When Nina asked the same question, however, Zalga said Slenderman would be an issue too."

I weigh whether or not I should tell Scarecrow about the alliance with Slenderman. Ultimately, I tell her some of the story of our arrival, careful not to expose too much information regarding whether or not we've returned to full strength yet. In the end, I leave out the alliance.

Out of nowhere, Scarecrow says, "I need to go."

"Wait!" I stop her, holding the phone closer to my cheek, "Tomorrow night at one. The usual meeting spot. Does that work?"

She's silent for a moment, voices on her end murmuring in indecipherable conversation, "No promises. I'll message you later."

Scarecrow hangs up, and I lower the device. I slide it into my pocket and nod to myself, knowing I need to tell Slenda immediately. An invisible hand tugs on my shirt, and I dart out of the room and back to the bar. Jess is still here, watching the ice melt in her glass.

She looks up at me and is about to say something until the ground shakes. It's not enough to put me off balance, but it makes me hold my arms out.

Jess grabs onto the table and grunts, "An earthquake?"

I make a run for the stairs, "Worse!"

The quaking earth shakes the bookshelves in the living room of Slenderman's mansion as I sit and listen to Slenda speak with him. In the distance, the roaring of wildfire and Dregs rattles the windows.

Slenderman paces back and forth, "That demon... does she not know humans walk the earth as well? She will draw in Homeland Security!"

Slenda, who sits in a leather chair, rubs her chin, "Knowing that siren, she has already taken multiple precautions to prevent such consequences. In fact, she might only allow us to hear her fighting as a warning, perhaps."
