ELIDETH'S POV
Farrokh was on my mind night and day so nothing could prepare me for that meeting thru Skype. Only Wish could come up with something like that. It was crazy, probably self-defeating but I couldn't be more joyful. I didn't expect that and it felt like a silky touch and a pierce into my heart at the same time.
- Hi, my sweety. How are you?
- Well. Will you come?
Children were not fond of subtleties and used to come straight to the point but funnily enough, he was seeing me through a tiny screen and didn't feel impressed at all. Seemingly it fit perfectly into his own universe, his powerful imagination.
- I can't right now but I will be there with you pretty soon.
- When?
- Before you even know. You look very tall and beautiful. Are you eating everything in your dish?
- Hmmm. Yep.
- Are you sure?
- Sometimes.
- That's better. You have to eat everything to be taller and stronger than cousin Freddie.
- I'm stronger than him. Daddy says I'm stronger than him.
That was not quite right but, who would contradict these two?
- Tell me what you're doing today.
- I'm going to the zoo.
- Wow, that means you've been a good boy.
- Didi told me if I'm good, she will buy me a double chocolate ice-cream.
Ice-cream in winter. Maternal inheritance, I guess. It was getting real hard holding back the tears because being able to see him was such a powerful thing to me but it wasn't enough. I needed to hold him and smell his beautiful skin. Exactly the way I did when I gave him birth in that jet plane and we could finally hear him crying. Loud and vibrant. The sound of life.
It was a way to speak each other that I'd never imagined we could get but here we stood, using future technology in 1985. Seeing him and not being able to touch him was painful, of course, but it breathed a fresh air into my life in 2022. I was where I needed to be but I didn't belong here, not completely anyway.
- Mum, you are coming soon.
- Yes, my love. And I will hold you in my arms hours and hours. I miss you so much.
- I miss you, mum. Love you.
- So do I, my prince.
Farrokh put his lips over the screen and so I did and we kissed. The child didn't shed a tear and it was surprising and made me stronger. If my three year old child could give me that wonderful strenght, why should I hesitate about the steps that I had taken?
