Chapter 17: Jealousy's A Real Bitch.

{Valerie}

It's been a couple of days since I'd gotten back from meeting Darren at the cafe and talking about the arranged marriage, and I still somehow wasn't able to mention it to Greyson.

"There's no way we can just, not do this?" Darren takes a threatening step closer but I don't back down, my expression stoic as he seethed in front of me.

"Hard to get, that's how you wanna play this?" He takes quick strides until he's standing barely a foot away, annoyance rolling off his body into mine. I didn't want him to see just how uneasy I was around him. He made me uneasy, I almost couldn't hide it. Each time I think of him, I think of the vibrant lilac purple flower shoved into Greyson's drink. How I didn't know to this day what it was, and how I hated to dwell on what would've happened had I not tossed it from his drink.

"Very well, I'll leave you be," I was so stunned I couldn't believe his words.

I could've hugged him, a smile plastered on my face realizing I'd just gotten rid of half my worries by simply asking. I guess violence isn't always the answer after all.

"For now." My elated attitude was short lived, Darren having left before I could protest his words.

He said he would leave me be, he said he would.

When I returned from being with Darren, it was well past eight o'clock, the moon had made its debut in the sky long ago, and it's safe to say Greyson wasn't happy.

He'd supposedly been worried sick over my whereabouts, and a specific room in the pack house may or may not have felt the effects of his anger.

Poor poor gym room.

What had begun as an innocent gym session eventually turned into Greyson transforming the training room into nothing but tatters. I stopped by before I went to my room to get situated for bed trying to help the Omega's the place.

After thirty minutes of vigorous cleaning, I felt bad that the Omega's were cleaning up a mess that they had no part it so I dismissed them and cleaned the rest myself.

That had been days ago. Seeing how worried Greyson was I didn't want to bother him with Darren, knowing that he might never be a problem again. Instead we've spent the better part our days in each others company, learning sweet nothings. As for our nights, we spent innocently luring one another in our rooms, only to fall asleep in each others arms.

It had almost been too peaceful getting to know one another, that is until the pack began to observe us spending time with one another more publicly, causing Crystal to catch wind of almost every encounter. To put it simply she was a seething jealous mess.

Having seen her in a different more emotional light during Tanner's departure, I may not have liked her, but I wanted to spare her some heartache by avoiding confrontation if I could. That was until she snuck into my room yesterday, breaking into my bedside table and tampering with the anklet my grandma had given me, successfully breaking the clasp off.

No one knew besides the two of us. It seemed innocent, but she'd messed with my things, so she'll get what's coming to her.

The kitchen staff had gotten a huge shipment of Goddess knows what, but it came in these huge barrels that needed to be rolled in. Pack members left and right started to help the staff, and while I originally was lounging by the pool in my swimsuit, I decided to jump in and help the cause too.

So here I am, rolling barrels into this big huge shed which passes by a lake that Greyson and Crystal are currently standing on the edge of.

Their body language continuously shifted from relaxed and effortless, to high strung and stoic, arguing no doubt. Crystal made it clear that me being unfit for this pack was a hill she'd die on, while Greyson made it equally as clear that if she had such a problem with it she could kick rocks and take it to the council.
