AGAINST A THOUSAND.
1774, NOVEMBER 29th, TUESDAY 1:08 am.
Noche was surrounded by a battalion of Cross soldiers – they flew in from all directions; swarming her. Being at the heart of Cross HQ was akin to her being like a piece of candy dropped in the middle of an anthill.
The nearest soldier ran up to her with his rifle. He took three quick shots, and she created a barrier of spinning water to deflect them. Once he was in arm's reach he raised the butt of his rifle and lunged forward. Noche used her left arm too – her head snapped back as blood spewed from her nose.
"Right. My arm. It's gone," she thought. "What I'm feeling is a phantom limb."
He came in to hit her a second time, but she caught the gun with her right hand. Noche flinched from the pain in her wrist. Red must've broken her bones when he grabbed her earlier. Acting fast she kicked him twice in the stomach – the first hit lifting him into the air and the second launching him far away.
Another man approached and she punched with all her might. Like a hot knife through butter, her fist went straight through him. Elbow deep in his chest cavity she threw the corpse at another charging soldier. Her entire arm was a slick red as she blocked two punches from the next attacker. She headbutted him on his nose and his skull cracked like an egg – spraying her in red.
Three soldiers dashed towards her and attempted to overwhelm her. However, Noche landed a strike on each of them and sent them flying away. A bullet slammed into her head and made her stumble, but it didn't penetrate her skull. However, that was enough time for one soldier to kick her in the stomach with enough force to knock her over.
Instead of standing back up, Noche swapped to her breakdancing – she did a windmill and struck her attacker in the knee. He crumpled to the ground, she rolled on top of him and slammed her elbow into his head. It exploded into a shower of gore as a greatsword came swinging towards her. She did a backflip from her crouched position and avoided the blade by a hair's breadth.
When Noche landed, she resummoned her Omni-Oar in a flash of gold surrounded by black mist. She swung towards her attacker, and he raised his weapon to block. The Omni-Oar sliced through the sword as if it was cutting air – a deep gash appeared on the man's chest.
She then changed her weapon to its ultra-greatsword form and swung at the next attacker. The weapon slammed into their ribs, cracked multiple bones, and sent them flying. The whirlwind of debris that followed the attack blinded a few of the approaching soldiers. Which was more than enough time for Noche to dash towards them and take them out in a single hit.
Then prismatic energy filled the sky and Noche's eyes widened. She reacted fast and created a barrier of water a split second before the explosions occurred. The artillery bombardment kept her locked in place. Shell after shell was created above her, fell to the ground, and detonated. Eventually, the chaos died down and she dropped her barrier.
Noche ran before they resumed firing – then flaming orbs filled the sky like a hail of arrows. It was a barrage of fireballs heading in her direction. Prismatic energy left her hands and filled the sky as Noche created a tornado to throw the burning globes off course. Rainbow energy filled the distance and a few people shot lightning at her.
It was impossible to dodge with her speed, but she had an energy shield up. Noche took the hits, grinned at the irony of someone using lightning against her, and covered her body in electrical armor. The next lightning bolt that hit her was absorbed by her crackling gold suit. She raised her arm and fired her own thunderbolt back at her attacker.
