It was a weird feeling being in school again. Like, Finney knew for sure, that he was here just the day before, but the dream felt like a few months. So of course he was confused.
Gwen was walking besides him, talking while Finney just listed. Or well, tried to listen. The whole time he felt his mind wandering of. Everything just felt wrong in a way Finney couldn't lay a finger on.
He always walked that way with Gwen, so maybe it was because of that. But it still felt like he walked that way before, heard Gwen talking about some boys in her class, how cute they were or who Finney thought she should marry.
Finney snorted in amusement. He liked it better that way.His sister just as a nine-year-old girl who, besides her terrible father, had no other problems than the boys in her class.
No missing persons cases or disturbing dreams that would make her father hit her.The thought of this made him clam down, even though the situation in his dream was realistic. Their father didn’t like the mentions of Gwen’s dreams. So they tried to never bring it up, they have learned their lessons. Finney watching and Gwen feeling.
“In a few months you will tell me the same stuff, just with another boy.” he teased resulting in an offended gasp. She knew she would, she always would, but the call out was unappreciated.
“First off all, rude.” she crossed her arms and Finney couldn't help but giggle. They had arrived at the school gates and again Finney felt as if he had seen this day before.
He quickly dismissed this thought. No, that just wasn't possible so it was just his head playing a stupid trick on him.
"You go to Suzie's right after school?" Gwen nodded."Alright, I'll probably be home in the afternoon depending on how Robin's math homework goes." he explained and said goodbye to her.
Why did he feel so weird saying goodbye to her like that? As if he could lose her at any minute. As if she would be swallowed up from one moment to the next?
He took a deep breath in and out, he was just being paranoid.Denver was a small down, nothing bad could ever happen here. Sure, it had some assholes, like Matty, Matt and Buzz for example, but no one here would even dare to think about kidnapping some little girl.
Maybe that stupid dream was just his brain mixing all of his worries and anxieties together. Maybe he should check out the library later today.
He didn’t think his dreams were anything near Gwens level, but he knew, that dreams often meant something.
Some stuff with feelings..Or maybe he shouldn’t. What if his dad or Gwen found out about it? His dad for sure would think Finney was the same as his mother, the same as Gwen. He shivered at the lone thought of that. No he didn’t want him to think that.
It wasn’t like that.
And Gwen, she’d probably be all over his ass trying to-“Finn, you there?” suddenly someone approached him from behind.
A wave of a mixture of unease and fear swept through his marrow, causing him to freeze for a moment before he flinched. It was Robin, he knew that.
Nobody else called him 'Finn'. It was like a nickname Robin had given him after they became friends. According to him, it suited him better.
And still Finney flinched, even though he knew very well that Robin wouldn't harm him. Often enough he had offered to do something about Finney's bullies but was always stopped by Finney. He didn't want to cause a stir and maybe put Robin on their radar. It was stupid to think, that just because Robin wanted to protect Finney, that he’d end up being bullied. This would never end up being the case, because Robin is different.
“O-oh, Hey Robin. Yeah, just got lost in thoughts.” he replied, looking now at the Mexican boy next to him. How long was Finney lost in thoughts that he could sneak up on him like this? Or, if Robin could do his, could others also do it?
The thought of some of his bullies just sneaking up from behind him made him feel sick, even though he didn’t know why.
