"Happy to be home again"
Chapter 19: Home
Season 5 Episode 19: Payback
*Trigger Warning*Isabella was finally back at work after a month away. She had returned from South Korea, where she and Abigail, along with the kids, had taken an extended break. The kids and Abigail had stayed an extra month with Samuel's parents.
At 10:30 a.m., Jay picked Isabella up from the airport. She was jetlagged from the 14-hour difference between Korea and the States, but she didn't have time to rest.
"Isabella!" Jay called out, walking toward her and pulling her into a hug.
"Jay," Isabella smiled, hugging him back.
"Almost didn't recognize you with the light pink hair," Jay said, smiling at her.
"I needed a change," Isabella said, running her hand through her hair.
He smiled, "Let's drop off your things at home and head to work before we get called in," he said, taking Isabella's suitcase from her.
They went to Isabella's apartment, where Jay helped her get settled. Once her things were put away, they headed to the station.
As they arrived, the dispatch crackled to life.
"Units on a city-wide, we're getting multiple reports of shots fired at 1360 South Waycrest."
"Good to see you back, Detective Park," Jay said as he drove away from the district.
"Good to be home, Detective Halstead. 5021 Charlie , two plainclothes officers heading towards the scene," Isabella said into her radio.
"Copy that, 5021 Charlie."
"5021 David, this call appears to be bona fide," Kevin said over the radio.
When they arrived at the scene, it was already secured with officers, EMTs, and firefighters arriving.
"Sarge," Isabella said as she approached, where Adam and Kevin were finishing their conversation with him.
"Good to see you, Park," he said, walking towards her. "Okay, get the casings to ballistics. See if they match the other robberies."
"Door down the hall might as well be paper," Isabella said, heading down the hallway where the boy had died. "Bullets went flying through it. The little boy in there was collateral damage."
He nodded in acknowledgment as he followed Isabella towards the apartment unit.
"Okay, go talk with the boy's mom. You and Kim," he directed.
"Copy that," Isabella replied, heading off to find Kim.
