"I thought you were dead"
Chapter 2: punching bag
Season 6 Episode 2: Endings
*Trigger Warning*

Isabella and Hank were chatting with an officer when she noticed Jay out of the corner of her eye. Hank excused himself from the conversation, and they made their way over to him.

"Hey," Isabella said softly.

"Jay, I, uh...we heard about your father. I'm sorry," Hank said, his gaze filled with sympathy.

"Thanks," Jay mumbled, nodding.

"Jay, take some time. Be with your family," Hank advised.

"It's not what you think, Sarge. Me and my dad had a complicated relationship. We didn't really see eye to eye. I'm not proud of it. It's the truth," Jay said, struggling to hold back tears. "But five other people died in that fire. I want to help."

"Hmm," Hank said, studying him. "Okay. Trudy is briefing everyone in the parking lot."

"Okay," Jay said, nodding.

As Hank walked away, leaving the two partners alone, Isabella looked at Jay with a reassuring smile. She took a step toward him, wrapping her arms around his neck and drawing him into an embrace. Jay tensed for a moment before his arms encircled her waist, his grip firm as he buried his face in her neck. He took a deep breath, savoring the comforting scent of her vanilla perfume.

"I'm so sorry for your loss, Jay," she whispered into his ear.

"Thanks, Bella," he mumbled into her neck.

Isabella smiled as she started to pull away, but Jay pulled her back in. "One more minute, please," he said, his breath tickling her skin and causing her to shiver.

"Of course, take all the time you need," she replied, running her hand up and down his arm.

From a distance, it might have looked like a couple embracing each other and sharing words of love and encouragement, but in reality, it was just two partners who had been working together for a long time.

Finally, they stood outside in the parking lot with the rest of the officers as Trudy addressed the group, holding a stack of flyers.

"Jane Doe, approximately 20 years old, 5'4". She fled Chicago Med less than 60 minutes ago. She exited through the west rear door and was last seen headed north on foot. She is believed to be alone and hurt, so we need to move quickly," Trudy announced.

"Hey, you want to take North?" Jay asked Isabella, tossing a radio her way, which she caught easily.

"Yeah," she said as they started walking.

"Fill me in."

"Alright, she dug out her own GPS chip, so she obviously doesn't want to be found. She has third-degree burns and multiple broken bones," Isabella explained as they looked around the parking lot.
