⋆*.•Neteyam POV•.*⋆
"He's back! Neteyam wake up! They found Ao'nung!" I immediately open my eyes to see Tsireya standing over me shaking my shoulders. "He is?" I move Tuk back onto the mat as I stand up to follow Tsireya, who is walking away with Rotxo.
The others are all still asleep, judging by the darkness escaping through the thick blanket of rain, it has probably only been about 1 hour since Tuk made me sleep. "Neteyam, are you lisrening?" I look and see that Tsireya has stopped walking and has a hand on my shoulder.
"Sorry, I didn't hear what you said" I look down at the girl who frowns as she repeats what she had said before. "You might not be allowed to see him, I don't know how bad his condition is but there is a chance mama won;t let you inside,
I nod in undesrtanding and follow her as she walks to the entrance of the marui, knocking softly on the frame. "Come in daughter" I stand hesitent at the door as Tsireya walks in and next to her brother's sleeping figure.
"Neteyam, Rotxo, you may enter as well" Ronal turns to look at the two of us standing awkwardly. "Thank you Tsahìk" Rotxo signs a greeting and enters I do the same, making sure to stay behind him.
"I shall leave the four of you here" Ronal stands up, quickly whispering something to Tsireya who nods, leaving the marui. "Reya?" his voice sounds worn out, quiet and coarse.
"Hey nungie! How are you feeling?" Tsireya adjust her position and gestures me over. I reluctantly crouch down a little closer to the three of them. "I feel like shit Reya thanks for asking" I can't help but chuckles at this, bringing the attention to me.
"Ma'teyam, you're here" I blush at the nickname and give him a smile as he lifts his head to look at me. "Of course I'm here you skxawng!" I move a bit so that I am crouching next to him, opposite Tsireya and Rotxo.
He looks at Tsireya who nods and puts a hand on Rotxo's shoulder, walking out of the marui without a word. "I'm so glad you're here" he exhales and takes my hand in his.
"Look, I'm so sorry! If I hadn't made you stay with me for so long the akula wouldn't have been there when you hunted an-" I start on a long rant, getting cut off by the boy lying in front of me.
"Neteyam! Don't you for one second think that this is your fault!" he lets go of my hand and moves it onto my shoulder. "It just-" I try to protest but get off yet again. "Not your fault, Ma'tìyawn" my eyes widen when I notice what he had just called me.
"W-what did you say?" I can see his face go red as he realizes what name he had just said. "Nothing..." he looks away and a smile breaks onto my face as I begin to tease him. "Aw! does Nungie have a little crush on me?" I put my hands together in front of my chest as I watch colour flood into his cheeks.
"And what if I do?" now it's my turn to blush as he catches me off guard with this statement. With my eyes wide, I try to think of a comeback as he laughs at my reaction.
"Nungie! Mama said you are allowed out of the marui now!" Tsireya runs back in, scaring me. "I can?" he tries to sit up but can't hold his torso up, I manage to catch his back before he hits the mat again. I sit him up so he can talk to Tsireya who is standing in front of us.
"Yea! As long as you wear a sling" she walks over to a basket at the side of the marui and pulls out a woven piece of fabric. She sits in front of her brother and puts it around his arm, tying it behind his neck.
"I'll leave you guys to it, I have to go check on my siblings" I stand up and wave goodbye to the two Metkayina, I can't help but notice Ao'nung watching after me with an expression I cannot understand. I skip over the pathways between the marui's, ignoring the rain pouring over me.
"Neteyam! Neteyam!" I hear Tuk's voice as I enter the marui, she runs at me and jumps into my arms. "Good morning TukTuk" I close my eyes take a deep breath and exhale slowly, opening my eyes again I see my brother and Kiri whispering about something in the corner.
"Welcome back son" I turn my head and see my father and mother standing on the other side of the marui, staring at me. "Sorry sir, I shouldn't have gone outside without telling anyo-" I carefully place Tuk down as I try to save myself from my parent's angry yelling.
"It's alright Neteyam" my father puts a hand on my shoulder and gives me a smile, I look at him confused but nod. "Now, you kids have training today, don't you?" father lets go of my shoulder and turns to my siblings who stand up from their little tea party.
"I don't know what we will be able to do though, M- Ao'nung's arm is damaged" I add to the conversation, wondering whether we are just going to practice breathing or sign language. "They found him?" all three of my siblings turn at once, making me laugh. "Yes, they did" I laugh and start walking outside to the beach again, waiting in the rain for the others to come.
"bye dad!" Kiri immediately pulls me outside, away from Lo'ak and Tuk. "So, what's the deal between you and Ao'nung?" she puts both her hands on my shoulders, ensuring that I can't walk away. "The deal?" she rolls her eyes at my response, taking one hand off my shoulder to facepalm. "You know what I m-" "No, I don't" I continue to stare at her confused as she smirks.
Playfully rolling my eyes, I walk back over to Lo'ak and Tuk who are having an argument about whatever I don't even care anymore. "Come on TukTuk let's go" I take her hand and start walking, she skips after me gladly.
"Come on Kiri! Lo'ak! We can't be late!" I turn and see my brother and sister whispering and giggling to eachother, stopping abruptly when I turn and see them. "No need to stop your little tea party, me and Tuk will meet you there" swiftly picking up my little sister, I run as fast as I can towards the beach where we usually meet the metkayina kids.
