As Airy and the other nine girls sat on the almost empty bus, she couldn't help but feel that something might be wrong. But she knew it was just nerves, the anticipation of starting a new chapter of her life. The bus was scheduled to take them from the remote town of Crimoor to the nearby city of Chester, where they would start college and work part-time jobs to support themselves. However, as the bus continued on for over an hour, with nothing but thick forests outside the windows, Airy began to grow concerned. "Why is it taking so long? It should have been a 40-minute drive," she said to Lily, one of her dear friends who would also be attending college and working with her at the same cafe.
Lily was just as confused and didn't know what to say. The uneasy feeling in the air became palpable as the two-hour mark passed without any signs of Chester. One of the girls, Rose, who was the most confident of the group, got up and approached the bus driver. "Excuse me, sir, how much longer until we reach Chester?" she asked.
The bus driver turned and glared at her, his eyes cold and unforgiving. "SIT," he barked, causing Rose to retreat to her seat. The unease among the girls turned into fear as the bus came to a sudden stop in front of a two-story building in what seemed like a remote location. Several men stepped forward to block the entrance, and Airy's fears were confirmed: there was no going to Chester City, no college, no normal life.
"What's going on?" Lily whispered, her voice trembling with fear.
"I don't know," Airy replied, trying to keep her voice steady. "But we have to stay calm and be ready for anything."
The men outside the bus began shouting orders, and the girls were herded off the bus and into the building. Airy clung to Lily's hand, feeling the comforting warmth of her friend's fingers against her own. They were led down a dimly lit hallway and into a room filled with cots and blankets.
"What's happening?" one of the girls asked, her voice shaking with fear.
"We have to get out of here," another said, her eyes darting nervously around the room.
But there was nowhere to go. They were trapped, surrounded by strangers who seemed to have no intention of letting them leave. Airy felt a sense of desperation creeping over her, and she knew that they had to find a way out before it was too late.
She looked around the room, searching for anything that could help them escape. But the windows were barred, the door was locked, and there seemed to be no way out.
As the hours ticked by, Airy and the other girls huddled together, whispering and trying to find some shred of hope in the darkness. They were scared, hungry, and cold, and the only thing they could do was wait and hope that someone would come to their rescue.
As time passed, the girls were taken out of the room one by one. Airy couldn't help but wonder where they were being taken and what was happening to them. Fear had taken over her mind and she felt like she was losing all hope. Finally, it was her turn to be taken. She was escorted down a long hallway that seemed to lead to nowhere.
The only thing she could hear was the sound of her own breathing and the footsteps of the person escorting her. As they turned a corner, she saw something that made her heart skip a beat. It was a room filled with men, some of whom were wearing masks. She tried to scream, but no sound came out of her mouth. She was too scared to move, too scared to do anything. One of the men approached her and took her by the arm. He led her to a small room where she was forced to undress staying in only undergarments and put on a white see-through outfit. She was then led into a larger room where several other girls were already waiting. There was a man at the front of the room who spoke to each other that Airy couldn't understand. He gestured to the girls and then to a group of men who were sitting on the other side of the room. It was then that Airy realized what was happening.
They were being sold. Sold into a life of slavery and forced prostitution. She wanted to scream, to fight back, but she knew it would be useless. She was outnumbered and outmatched. As the men started bidding on the girls, Airy felt like her life was over. She was just another commodity, another thing to be bought and sold. She couldn't bear the thought of what was to come. All she could do was pray. And hope that this is all a dream and that she is back in the orphanage just waking up to go to Chester.
But deep down she knew that this was real even though she was in complete shock and this all happened so fast.
This was not a dream.
It was a complete nightmare.
