Airy POV

As I slowly opened my eyes, the first thing I noticed was Vivian sitting in the room, engrossed in a book. She looked up as she noticed my movements and concern etched her face. "Airy, dear, are you feeling okay?" she asked, her voice laced with genuine care and affection.

I tried to sit up, feeling a bit dizzy and disoriented like I was still lost in a dream world. "I'm okay," I replied, my voice hoarse.

But the memories of the previous night came flooding back to me, like a tsunami hitting the shore. The escape, the wolves, and the Alpha. He was a wolf, a werewolf, a creature that I had only read about in fantasy books, knowing fully well that they were not real. My eyes widened in disbelief, and I suddenly jumped out of the bed, ignoring the shooting pain in my leg.

"No!" I exclaimed, my voice barely above a whisper. But Vivian's gentle voice brought me back to reality, and I realized that my leg was throbbing with pain.

"You hurt your leg last night. Please sit down so it can heal better," Vivian said, her voice motherly and soothing, like a balm to my troubled mind. Reluctantly, I sat down, my thoughts still reeling from the shocking revelation.

"Alpha, he is a wolf?" I asked, still trying to wrap my head around the truth.

Vivian simply nodded her head, her eyes filled with understanding and concern. "You need a good rest, dear," she said again, her voice as comforting as a warm embrace.

She left the room after helping me make the bed.

The wolves that looked abnormally large were also from this place, hiding under the forms of humans and talking and acting like one. It made me wonder, is Vivian also one of them? As she left the room, I got up and sat on the window where I had left one of the books. I looked at the window and managed to lock it, but it was locked again. I felt defeated. My mind couldn't stop thinking of last night and how scared I felt in those woods. Now that I was looking at the same forest line in the daylight, it brought a strange calm feeling to me. I looked at the clouds; they were as gloomy as always. I craved seeing the sun, which would only appear a few days out of the year. My skin had always been pale because of it.

I tried to read the book and heard how the shift change happened between Gary and Jay. I opened the door and, knowing well that the man standing there named Jay was most likely a werewolf, said hello. He turned to me and replied with a smooth voice, "Hello, Airy." Unlike Alpha or Gary, he seemed nice and genuine. I felt like I could trust him.

"How are you feeling?" he asked, taking me away from my thoughts.

"I'm okay," I said, looking at my leg. I practically limped to the door. "Can I please go to that balcony for some fresh air?" I asked him, pointing at the open balcony that was near the middle of the hallway. I had seen that balcony the first day I got here.

He looked at me and said, "I will have to ask permission for that."

"Permission, of course. I was some kind of prisoner here," I thought to myself as I nodded my head and went back to the room. I sat on the window sill seat, my usual spot, and looked outside at the beautiful scenery. The rolling hills, the green trees, and the clear blue sky all looked so serene, but my heart was heavy.

After a few moments, I decided to change my clothes because I was still wearing the same clothes as yesterday. I removed the band-aids that covered the small scrapes and the brace looking one from my leg and decided to take a quick shower. The warm water was a relief for my aching muscles, and I spent a few minutes enjoying the sensation before stepping out of the shower.
