THE DAY THAT WASN'T

"Let's hope you have compensation to cover the damage that's about to occur on this oh-so wonderful establishment."

A WOMAN, I CAN ONLY assume to be 'Dot', hastily made her way into the tube room, Five jumping a second later, indicating for me to jump. Landing a little ways away from Five, I couldn't hear the conversation happening, so when Dot left and the elderly woman at the entrance of the room was on her own, I jumped over, grabbed a stapler and knocked her out.

I heard Five chuckle as he walked past me, grabbing the woman's hands and dragging her behind the desk. "What? What's funny right now?" I asked, crossing my arms over my chest as I sat on the desk.

Five grabbed the capsule and opened it, reading the note and handing it to me to read. 'Protect Harold Jenkins'. Odd. Who is he? Why is he important?

Sitting down at the woman's desk, Five grabbed another note before finally replying to my question. "The stapler just reminded me of something."

"Oh."

I remember now, he and his siblings stopped a bank robbery back in 2002. Five was so excited to tell me about the stapler he used to knock out the criminal. I remember reading that letter with a fond smile on my face. 13 year old me was truly love-struck.

Five had finished the two orders of extraction to Hazel and Cha-Cha, placing both of them into separate capsules, closing them both tightly. Standing, Five threw a capsule my way, thinking I knew where to put it. "That one." Five pointed at one diagonal to his, placing his capsule in the tube he was currently at.

Placing the capsule and sending it off, I sighed. I was so tired. I just wanted do go home.

"You know that's not how we do things here." The Handler's voice rang out from behind us both, making us turn and face her quite quickly. I made my way over to Five, him placing his arm around my waist as he leaned on one of the tube machines. We needed the best way of jumping, and if physical contact like this, inconspicuous and incognito, was the way to do it then I'd gladly let Five hold my waist like this. And to be fair, I was quite cold.
